Howlin started a Live Thread September 10, 2004 to see what Dan would say. He told us his report was the facts and nothing but the facts.
Well, it is now Monday, the 13th. What will Dan say today?
Well if SEEBS says it then we know it is true! No more cruises for me :(
It a fake.
Yep. He's become too much of an embarrasment.
rotfltip!! thanks for my new background!!
Red faced and quaking voice. Sounds like he is doing his best to lie with a straight face. Not good at it.
It's also "possible" for a chimp to type a Shakespeare sonnet.
He's mentioned here. http://villagenews.weblogger.com/stories/storyReader$12720
I got news for everybody, I was in the NG from '72 to '78 and everything we got was regular army hand-me-downs. Most of our office equipment was Korean war vintage.
That Rather has to address this twice on-air now, means it is still reverberating in the MSM, and hurting CBS. That's good. This story has had legs for 8 days and is still going on!!
It was so serious that I thought he was going to talk about a death in the family or a funeral. I have not listened to him in years so do not know if this were his normal voice.
Rather's voice sounds like crap.
You can tell he has been through the ringer with the suits!
The Spectator's Prowler says that they have been going nuts at CBS.
Said a CBS source told them that you could tell that Rather was flustered by all of this.
Ummm... all you have to do to fool the auto-superscript is place a space between the number and the "th" - which shows up frequently in these documents. And it is very simple to use a lowercase "L" as a number 1 - that is just an asinine statement. Gotta love these "experts" - I hope they are independently wealthy, because their reputations just went down the toilet...
You mean, like this?
111th (all "1"s; in Times New Roman)
1l1th (Middle "1" replaced with a "l"; also in Times New Roman)
Their 'new technical expert' is the typewriter repairman that was in the news today. He says the typewriters of the day will do the memo, I say start typing.
Nano airbrush technology (and a steady hand) could also explain this.
"Roland was a warrior from the land of the midnight sun..."
Look for folks at CBS to start sawing it off. I predict in a day or two you will start hearing mumbles from CBS staffers about how Dan Rather has lost a step, that he's past it, and possibly is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. This trickle will become a torrent, and Rather will be history by October.
Ultimately, the network will have to defend itself, and will throw Dan Rather to the wolves in order to maintain a shred of credibility.
Sorry, this is only my my own speculation, I should've been more clear:) I'm referring to Dan Rather's daughter, she's a political operative for the Democrats in Texas.
The other daughter in the story is Ben Barne's,he has ties to the Kerry campaign in Texas, and his daughter said on Sean Hannity's program that her father is lying to promote his upcoming book.
So what? Did Killian just "happen" to type using the MS Word default settings, font etc in 1972?Why are you asking me, Bub? I know as much as you do.

September 14, 2004 EXPERT BILLBill Glennon could scarcely have known, back in the days when he roamed Manhattan's mean streets searching for typewriters to fix, that one day he would become the go-to guy for Dan Rather's defence. The New York technology consultant and former IBM typewriter mechanic ('73-'85) first entered the Rather debate with this comment at Kevin Drum's Washington Monthly site:
Kevin, I worked in the IBM Office Products Division field service area fixing typewriters in NYC for over 13 years in the 70s. I can tell you that the Model D can produce those documents, not only did it do proportional spacing, you could order any font that IBM produced AND order keys that had the aftmentioned superscripted "th." Also you could order the platen, thats the roller that grabs the paper, in a 54 tooth configuration that produced space, space and a half and double spacing on the line indexing, this BTW was popular in legal offices. The Model D had to be ordered from a IBM salesmen and was not something that was a off the shelf item, typical delivery time were 4-6 weeks. Also, typewriter keys were changed in the field all the time, its not that hard to do. I wish I had saved my service and parts replacement manuals to backup this claim but I'm guessing a call to IBM with a request for a copy of their font and parts replacement manuals would put this to rest ASAP.
In 1975, my dad was an Air Force Colonel. His secretary had a 1918 Underwood typewriter.
dan's daughter robin is a texas democrat politico wannabe.
