In an effort to discredit the work Charles at LGF has done investigating the Rathergate forgerys PC Magazine has published an article void of any substance or journalistic ethics (if there is such a thing).
The author of the article tries to prove that the memos were in fact typed on a IBM Selectric Composer completely ignoring the fact that the typography in the memos was kerned. The author also give graphical examples that are purposely small in order to deceive (when the two are placed on top of each other they DO NOT LINE UP).
In a finally act of stupidity the author references Daily Kos. The liberal blog that has numerously called for the death of US service personnel and even said "Screw 'Em" to the horrifying deaths of the contractors that where mutilated, burned, and then hung from the bridge.

Not kerned. Some glyphs are nested in a way that was not
possible with technology available to Killian, but

I did try to indicate that my post wasn't to be taken serisously by the "(/exterme sarcasm)" at the end. I meant that what I had said about how to settle this wasn't to be taken seriously. They are fakes, and no amount of debating fonts or the capability of certain IBM selectric, executive, or composer typewriters will keep them from being cheap fakes.
As you point out the mechanics of how they were put on paper prove they are fakes. The information on the paper (zip codes, addresses, military date formats, CYA (come on now),content (i.e. people who are no longer active duty are presuring folks who are active duty), etc. also demonstrates that they are fakes.
The documents are fakes. I know that, you know that, many journalists know this, most people who spend a few minutes looking into it know they are fakes.
Yet many many democrats say they are not fakes and Dan Rather and CBS are staking their reputations on the line by saying that the information they contain is true and must be taken seriously.
I Democrat I know looked at me and said that it doesn't matter as you can't believe anything your read in the media on either side, so you must just go with with "feels" correct. That is where we are "empathetic" Democrats, like Dan Rather, feeling that this story is "right" versus people who are searching or truth and want the truth to be known.
Clinton was one of those rare people with absolutely no morals who could look people in the eye and tell them exactly what they wanted to hear and be convinced that he had never lied about anything. That is why I posted what I did.

The man in charge of the office where Killian was serving has stated in an interview (I think with Sean) Friday, that their office had an "entry level" Selectric with no Superscript capability, and ancient Olympic, and a couple of old Underwood's.
Jeez, this SCANDAL is becoming nothing more than the MSM performing mental ma$turbation!

I guess PC Magazine's forum is "neutral" territory, so you're seeing right debate left in almost equal numbers. But it's not even close to being a fair fight.
This is true as far as it goes, but ignores a plethora of relevant issues (e.g. the likelihood of a typewritten document at a TANG base in 1971 having proportional fonts and reduced superscripts).

Remember also, that the memos have no erasures, smudges or strikeouts. The "poor" typist typed them perfectly and centered the first time!
Anybody here actually used a typewriter? How likely is that?

But it's still a very stupid article.
That is the key point right there. No one has reproduced the Killian memos with ANY typewriter.
Only if you're an expert typist, or if you precisely weigh every character you type.
I've noticed numerous strikeouts in the military memos I've read in the course of researching Kerry's record. In an informal "for file" memo I see plenty of scope for mistakes.

There is no debate about the fraud. It's now a matter of who all is involved. Obviously Dan and the Kerry campaign. They may have collaborated with Hanoi Jane or someone else, Hubbard? Ramsey Clarke? Hillary?

Dear Sir,
For someone who works on the Internet, you are WAY behind the curve. Even people who are 24 hours behind know that the IBM Selectric doesn't do the proportional typesetting of today's better computer programs. The IBM Executive, which cost about the same as a new car, is the one that could do proportional spacing. But even that could not do either the kerning or the superscript as they appear in the forgeries.
As a US Supreme Court attorney for four decades, I assure you that any argument is lost before you begin if you cannot account for the observed, basic facts. Oh, you can win arguments in front of stupid audiences, for sure. But intelligent audiences will chew you up and spit you out. The Internet is an intelligent audience -- not as smart as your average Justice, mind you, but smart enough to take apart what you have posted.
You need to do your homework, then rethink, rewrite, and repost.
