A Parallel

If I start this by saying RATHER LIED can anyone guess to what parallel I might be refering to? Rather received info from sources he believed to be accurate and broadcast a story about Pres. Bush and the TNG. Pres. Bush received info from sources he believed to be accurate and began anti-terrorist operations in Iraq. I think this example could be used in helping to defend our President against the nutzoid left.

I do not think this is where we want to go. You're suggesting Bush relies on the same type of bad judgement as Dan Rather? The same bad judgement being lambasted all over the internet for years and now the mainstream media?

We now know that Rather ignored key research of dissent from his thesis, notably Killean's wife and son. What research did Bush willfully ignore? Are you suggesting that Bush relied on possibly forged (or at least questionable) documents to make his case?

Yes, odds are it was Dan Rather himself, or one of his personal body servants, who did the job.

The problem is that when the WMD are picked up in Syria, Bush will be proven right. HellsBells, there is enough evidence now, but it is just ignored.

Bush is defending America. CBS sees itself inventing news and propaganda ala Orwell.

I see your point...but that wasn't my thought. I think that Rather truly believed these phony document were real. If were look at Rather's situation can we now say that Rather Lied. That is what they are saying about our Pres.

No. Rather spiked all information which would have gone in Bush's favor. One look at those documents by anyone familiar with old style typewriters and current word processing should send red flags up all over the place. Rather playing dumb doesn't fly.

Furthermore, it's likely that there actually were WMD stockpiles which have either been hidden, moved or destroyed in the run up to the war. There were certainly WMD which have been found, which the likes of Dan Rather like to pretend did not happen, just like Rather is now pretending, in the face of hard evidence to the contrary, that his documents are legit.

There's no comparison.

Furthermore, there is absolutely NOTHING you can say to convince the true believers that Bush did not lie. They are going to believe what they want to believe. It's just not worth the effort.

I dont believe for one minute that Rather thought the documents real I think he believed he could get away with perpetrating a fraud on the American public and forgot the power of the internet. Rather is old and he tends to feel he can still get away with the same crap he has pulled for years, when the fact is we now have a new news source. The Internet.

Rather didn't think the docs were real.

That is why he and his "producer" used a "graphologist" (the document equivalent of an astrologer) to "authenticate" them, and that is why they willfully ignored the warnings by the son and wife that they were on the wrong track.

Never compare corruption by someone else to Bush.

Bingo. How many times during this campaign has this same mistake been made? There's a new game in town and the old media can't control it. I'm enjoying watching their meltdown
