HODGES SAID HE WAS MISLED BY CBS
Noted Now - ABC News The Note ^ | 09/11/04 | ABC News The Note

Posted on 09/10/2004 7:42:49 PM PDT by Ed Zoekuiper

Retired Maj. General Hodges, Killian's supervisor at the Grd, tells ABC News that he feels CBS misled him about the documents they uncovered. According to Hodges, CBS told him the documents were "handwritten" and after CBS read him excerpts he said, "well if he wrote them that's what he felt."

That was a bit of an inside joke. Dan Rather made his name in Texas in the early 70s covering hurricanes from Galveston. He was the first to be filmed leaning into the wind while reporting.

The untold part of the whole sorry Bush/ANG smear is that like CBS, the Lamestream press is so narrowly focused on "Digging Up Dirt On Bush" (hereafter called "DUDOB,") that they sail right past lots of other very interesting and easily found contraries.

The F102 [this was President Bush's plane in the National Guard, right?] , according to the figures of the Air Force Safety Center was 3 times as dangerous as today's fighter planes.

Also, SEVENTY pilots were KILLED in crashes or accidents with the Delta series. I could be wrong, but I think that's quite a bit higher than the number of dead Swift Boat Pilots.Yet the subscript for the Lamestream Press remains: "Bush was a coward."

We have just GOT to do something about this!

Thank you so much for the information. Great reply!

You need to close it. Put a > at the end.

YOu can preview it, and see if it works, before you post it.

These are just the "setup" documents, which they will spin to raise doubts about Bush's integrity and truthfulness, etc. Once that have instilled doubt, they then unleash a veritable mountain of unverifiable accusations against him, and he suffers the death of a thousand cuts.

These "setup" documents have already been discredited, no matter what Rather says. There's not a single alphabet or cable network that doesn't have experts who question their authenticity.

Besides, the voting public has gone over Bush's National Guard records four times. They've already made up their minds.

Calling Bush a "liar" over the 9/11 weekend will look so friggin' crass that he's likely to get another 3 or 4 points in next week's poll.

Rather's "documents" are losers.

Although I am not with you on your Misdirection premise, I do agree with this last post.

No, the forger is probably not former military with some miles on his treads. Consider the number of errors in military style, title abbreviations, and acronyms. Nope, the forger is almost certainly a relatively young civilian who has no clue about such things.

So what do we know about Robert Strong? Is he a Kerry Democrat? Right now it appears he is the only person from the unit supporting Rather's story.

Let's assume there is a trap. What is he hoping to catch in that trap?

Bush's supporters will dissipate themselves trying to prove the typed documents are forgeries, only to have rather come back and say: "Yeah, well the originals were handwritten (but are really hard to read), so somebody just typed them up on a WP, and digitally scanned the signatures. This refutes the claim that the documents are forgeries. Thus the original handwritten documents (whose signatures were verified by our signature expert as being those of Col. Killian) prove Bush lied...."

That's the bait and switch they are going to try to pull, I suspect. And if anyone questions the validity of the handwritten memoes, they will say: "What? Not this 'forgery' crap again! We just went through wasting a week listening to all you self-appointed internet "experts" trying to tell us we don't know how to verify a document, and it was all nonsense. We aren't wasting our time entertaining that silly theory yet again. Now that we know that Bush lied....."

that he's been getting away with similar lies for years, and having gotten away with it, has become more and more brazen and careless.

That's the mistake almost every successful con man eventually makes, he comes to believe he is so good at his trade that no one can catch him at it. That's when he gets careless and slips up. Blather slipped up big time with this debacle, and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving fellow.

So long Danny old boy, don't let the fact that your career ended in utter disgrace get you down. Just remember all those other times when you lied and got away with it.

That's true, but the Democrats aren't envisioning these documents as the final blow that does Bush in. These are just the "setup" documents, which they will spin to raise doubts about Bush's integrity and truthfulness, etc.

I don't put it past the Democrats to conjure up such a Machiavellian scheme.

The problem with it is that CBS, by staking everything on the authenticity of the original Killian documents, has also forced the Democrats to stake everything on them too.

Discrediting one set of negative documents related to Bush's Guard service will cast similar discredit over other related documents.

You know.....I think they would be willing to do that. Their ratings are in the tanker anyway, so why not do something to create some excitement for them? If ABC is still pushing this, then I'd say yeah....they're willing to go for it.

Besides, it looks Kerry is pretty much a loser at this point. Much as they tried, they couldn't pull it off.

They may also be "going for the jugular" with going after CBS?

"Distract your opponent with sound"....

That is one heck of a death rate for non-combat deaths. I wonder how many Swiftboat drivers like Kerry were killed over a similar amount of time?

It's true that there are many twists and turns in politics, so we should not gloat too much.

But gloating is fun, please allow us a little big of gloating before you party-poop us. ;^)

they presented the documents as copies of the originals.

They are; they are copies of the original "transcriptions" which were presumeably provided by the source.
