Hollywood, CA (LifeNews.com) -- Actress Ellen Barkin, who stars in the film "Palindromes," startled those attending the Venice Film Festival this week by saying she would force her daughter to have an abortion.
"I am the mother of a 12 year old. If she was pregnant, I would take her kicking and screaming to have an abortion," Barkin said at a press conference Tuesday to publicize her new movie.
In the film, Barkin, who starred in "The Big Easy" and won an Emmy in 1997 for her role in "Before Women Had Wings," plays the mother of a teenager girl who is forced by her parents to have an abortion.
The heroine, 12 year-old Aviva, wants to be a mother. After a neighbor impregnates her, Aviva's mother (Barkin) insists on the abortion.
Aviva runs away from home and stays with a loving Christian woman, Mama Sunshine, who takes care of the adolescent and protects her unborn child.
Pro-life groups are already up in arms about the movie Palindromes, with its images of dead unborn babies in medical pans and its distorted portrait of those who oppose abortion as violent extremists.

The next question should have asked her who she is supporting for President (as if we couldnt guess). I love the idea of tying these lib radicals to Kerry - our side needs to do more of it now that the MSM is eating their own.
Good. It'll clean up the gene pool.
So when you absolutely, positively have to keep your acting career, abortion clinics become as convenient as drive-through laundries.
"kicking and screaming
This must be the "choice" part :-)"
Also the child abuse part. If liberals can call social workers on families for spanking -- what on earth could excuse dragging a kicking and screaming child??
And what counseling would she provide for her daughter afterwards? Apparently those who have had an abortion go through similar feelings as having wanted the baby and lost it. Trouble is, since abortion is supposed to be the desired end, there can't be any resources to help anyone afterwards because nothing is wrong, right? [sarcasm off]
Not very theraputic for the baby, though - she would have her little arms and legs ripped off of her, with no anesthesia. A gruesome way to die, nick.
Of course it's legal. On the other hand, it would be illegal to DENY an abortion to her.
Woman is a moron, never occured to her a child is a gift from God, who does she think she is, thinking about doing something like that to a little baby.
I saw this all the time when I did prayer vigils outside abortion clinics in Boston. The young girls are most often accompanied by their mothers or "boyfriends."
Imagine having to live with the fact that your mother wanted your child dead-- I can't.
I don't have kids, so what is the proper thing to do with a pregnant 12 yo?
If you have the right to kill your child, why not your child's child, or anyone else for that matter?
This might sound crazy, but how about letting nature take its course? Pregnancy is a condition of health, not illness, unless you think human reproduction is a disease.
Contact the nearest Crisis Pregnancy Center and make an appointment - and pray unceasingly.
So it's not dangerous for a girl to give birth at that age?
I understand the crisis center, but what pray unceasingly for what?
I understand the crisis center, but pray unceasingly for what?
Oh, for starters:
wisdom, mercy, grace, provision.
For you, for her, for the volunteers at the Crisis Pregnancy Center.
Prayer is the engine that drives everything - why do you thing president Bush starts his mornings on his knees? - for wisdom, mercy, grace, provision.........
No*. One thing we know for sure though is that abortion is 100% fatal for the baby.
___________________________________________________________ *From the CDC:
A total of 4,200 maternal deaths during the surveillance period were pregnancy-related. The pregnancy-related mortality ratio for the entire period was 11.8 deaths per 100,000 live births; the ratio rose from 10.3 to 13.2 per 100,000 between 1991 and 1999, and the increase was statistically significant. Women younger than 30 had below-average pregnancy-related mortality ratios (8.6-9.6 per 100,000), but the ratio was just above average for those in their early 30s and rose dramatically thereafter (to 21.6 for women in their late 30s and 45.4 for those aged 40 and older). The analysts calculated risk ratios, which confirmed that women aged 30-34 had a modestly higher risk of dying from a pregnancy-related cause than women younger than 20 (1.4), and the risk was markedly elevated among women aged 35-39 (2.5) or older (5.3). Whereas white women had a pregnancy-related mortality ratio of 8.1 deaths per 100,000 live births, the ratio for black women was 30.0 per 100,000; the risk ratio (3.7) suggested that black women were almost four times as likely as white women to die from a pregnancy-related cause.
I understand prayer...but with reference to a pregnant 12 yo, I thought you meant pray unceasingly for something specific that would help the situation.
