WASHINGTON AP) - The Bush administration differed Tuesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that only a political settlement could end the crisis between Russia and the breakaway region of Chechnya.

The administration also left open the possibility of U.S. meetings with Chechens who are not linked to terrorists.

Secretary of State Colin Powell and Deputy Secretary Richard Armitage signed a book of condolences at the Russian Embassy over the deaths of at least 330 people, most of them children, during a hostage-taking last week at a school in the southern city of Beslan.

The reason Putin has been forced to interfere in Chechnya after granting them autonomy is because the Checchnyan Islamic terrorists are killing other Chechnyans. They want Islamic rule and will kill all non-Muslims eventually

Did State study in France?

Check their office walls for their French written Diplomas for "Appeasement 101 Certificates" then send them to a special school in Texas for "Raw Facts 101"!

God, I hope so...this would make me likely not to vote at all if it was true.

"The U.S Government is giving the Russians and the Israelis very different advice on terrorism than the one in maintains for itself."

The U.S. is not trying to force an unwilling populace to live under permanent foreign rule or to settle lands inhabited by others. America went to Afganistan and Iraq to purge the terrorists and their supporters from these countries, not impose imperial rule or to displace the native population.

"Uh...that's exactly what they did say, remember?"

No they didn't. They were completely behind us then. Heck, everyone was. The US had a tremendous amount of sympathy from the rest of the world then. It is amazing how much has changed in just three years. They were behind us in the Afghan war and even shared intelligence and encouraged their client states in the area to let us use their facilities. It wasn't until the Iraq invasion that their support ended.

I'm thinking there's absolutely no brains left in Washington.

Two-faced and Forked-tongue say it's necessary to deal with terrorists?!?!

They sure don't represent the bulk of Americans' opinion...

Read my tag. Islam, like Naziism, is an ideology. It must be completely discredited and wiped out as a condition for peace.

These words (and others) in the Koran must be repudiated:

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.
[9.30] And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!

That means the Koran must be repudiated. The Kaaba must be destroyed and Mecca rendered uninhabitable. Zam-zam must be polluted and destroyed so there is no water. And all mosques in the world converted to other uses or destroyed.

You cannot have peace and have Islam continue to be practiced anywhere. That is submission.

In an interview Monday with a group of foreign journalists and academics, Putin rejected Western calls for negotiations with Chechen rebel [sic!] representatives, Britain's Guardian and Independent newspapers reported.

"Why don't you meet Osama bin Laden, invite him to Brussels or to the White House and engage in talks, ask him what he wants and give it to him so he leaves you in peace?" the Guardian quoted Putin as saying sarcastically.

The Chechen bandits (not "rebels") want a pan-Caucasus emirate, under sharia law and under their control!!!! They also want to--in the process of acheiving their goals--slaughter as many Christians (Russians, Ossetes, Armenians, Georgians, etc.) in the region as they can, and reduce those who are left to dhimmitude!!!!!

Osma bin Laden wants a WORLD-WIDE khalifate, with a similar--only more widespread--genocide of "infidels"!!!!

No negotiations are possible with EITHER of them!!!! "You're either with us, or with the terrorists."

What kind of Kerryesque "sensitive approach to terrorists" types in the State Department came up with suggestions to negotiate with the Chechen terrorist savages? They should be fired at once!!!!

Besides, anyone who thinks that the Russians or anyone else should negotiate with these child-killing savages should ask a mother whether anyone should negotiate with them. They would be set straight very quickly!!!!

It is still there, and it's on a lot of other sites now, according to Google News.

"Yes, the terrorists must be killed, but they're a small minority of the region's population."

Who are supported by 98% of the rest of the population.

Absolutely correct-there can be no peace until Islamacists give up their plan for world domination. We must force them to do so...negotiation would be meaningless because they are liars as well as murderers.

I'll say it again...

One of the most virulent, anti-American groups on the face of the earth is the US State Department!

Maybe they'll announce that only a diplomatic solution will solve the "war on terror" too.

Um, Gentlemen, the AP article that triggered this post has, I'm pretty sure, be removed, was it false?

Until it's refuted, it's as good as true.

I agree-you are preaching to the choir. There is a lesson here for America. Putin negotiated, he backed down and was repaid with the blood of Russia's children. There can be no accommodation reached with Islamic terrorists.
