Lisa Whiting says she has seen the little girl.
This was about seven years ago, when Whiting was standing behind Stone's Public House in Ashland, around the time she started working there. She happened to glance up and see a wee ghost looking down from a second-floor window.
"She's very clear -- crystal-clear," said Whiting, describing the apparition as having long dark hair and wearing a white dress. "It's not like she's hazy. She looks like she's real, like she's standing up there."
Apparently she's still around: Last month a customer sitting out on the patio asked who the little girl was in the window. The answer made her bolt from her seat and run inside.
A source of reported ghost sightings for decades, Stone's Public House, now a bar and restaurant, was recently the subject of an otherworldly investigation, the results of which will be revealed next month on a new Sci-Fi Channel series, "Ghost Hunters."
Aside from the ghosts themselves, the stars of the show are a group of diehard spirit-seekers from the Atlantic Paranormal Society, based in Rhode Island. The group's motto: "We scare them back."
They visited Stone's in July and set up an array of equipment straight out of the movie "Ghostbusters," including an electromagnetic field detector and an infrared camera.
The investigators won't talk about what they found, but they promise the episode featuring the old Ashland landmark will be worth watching.
"I'll just say it was a very good show," said Brian Harnois, head of the society's technical department. "It was one of our best investigations so far. It's a little freaky." Continued...

Thanks for this latest ghostie. We need a ghost story thread next month to tell our own stories. I finally got a digital camera and hope the old man's face in my tree shows back up (it has to rain) so I can post it, wooooo!
I think this Ashland is Ashland, MA which is located outside Boston. Can't wait for the show but hope it isn't hokey.

Ashland MA, very near the starting point for the Boston Marathon. (Starts in Hopkinton, then through Ashland.) This is more like the plot of a "Murder She Wrote" episode than a newspaper story.
They come from backgrounds such as electrical contractor and private investigator. No real scientific training, which made them prone to speculate on advanced physics they didn't really know anything about. But their blue-collar backgrounds gave them a level-headed, pragmatic approach; they were well-aware of pitfalls in ghost-hunting. E.g., using a digital camera in dark, dusty environments will create "orbs" of light which are nothing more than the flash reflecting off of dust particles.
The leader, who gave the presentation I saw, described how he became interested in the subject after being involved in a dramatic case in Hawaii on a military base. More dramatic than the cases they have invested in the Ohio Valley, apparently; they reported that they had yet to find a genuinely convincing display of paranormal activity, although they found several possible cases. (They had investigated about nine cases. They do not have a great deal of time for this, it's really a hobby for them.)
One case they investigated made it onto the national news wires about a year ago, an allegedly haunted police station in a town near Louisville. Our presenter said the group hadn't yet finished the investigation but he was able to suggest that it was probably less than spooky: e.g., the drawer that kept opening was in an old filing cabinet that had a bad latch and which was on a floor that was not level.

I grew up in an apartment building built in the 1800's. It was a big Chicago style greystone and over the years many people had died there. And 'The Building' was somewhat isolated (yes even in Chicago). There was an apartment building across the street and a few houses down the block but it was mostly open fields (we called them prairies).
From my earliest memories of about say six years old (the 'clanging chains'), until I moved out when I got married at 26. 'Stuff' happened it seems now, like it was almost on a weekly basis, but naturally it wasn't quite that often.
Many times I was literally scarred sh**less. "Things that went bump in the night"; where common and the LEAST scary. The "voice in the basement that called to me" when I was about 18 was maybe the worst (I actually ran and got my rifle - duh). That's tied with 'The Cross' appearing on my bedroom wall or when my shoulder was 'touched' (soft slap was more like it) one night.
And they'd happen at any time - daytime, afternoon, night time, sunny day, lights on or off, or during thunder storms. With my mom or uncle being home too.
And I wasn't the only one to experience these 'things'. Prior to WWII an older cousin was 'dragged' down the middle of the bed - while sleeping between her parents. A priest came ASAP and blessed every room with Holy Water (they lived with my grandparents at the time).
Anyway, it was so nice when I finally moved out NOT hear, see or 'feel' that stuff anymore. I was finally able to sleep peacefully without having to worry about my friends showing up.
I'll have to write some of these up as short stories. That's the only way to get the real feeling of the terror 'weirdness'.
Again, it wasn't just 'The Building', the surrounding neighborhood was ... 'weird' - rocks from the sky following me as I ran and that 'guy' who literally appeared out of nowhere when I was playing army one day.
Then there was the family about six blocks away who had the Poltergeists in their house. That was in the Chicago newspapers as I recall.

No, I haven't. Actually, I'm somewhat skeptical, but it's very interesting and I know some very down-to-earth people with a ton of credibility who say that they've experienced some of these things.... and that list now includes my own mother.
