BESLAN, Russia - A group of about 30 women and children broke out of a school in southern Russia where militants were holding hundreds of people captive Friday, a news agency reported, after two loud explosions were heard and Russian commandos opened fire near the building. The Interfax news agency said that the school's roof had collapsed and militants were shelling and firing from the building. Interfax said the hostages who broke out of the school included women and children. It was impossible to immediately verify the reports.
Two helicopters hovered overhead. An ambulance rushed from the scene and CNN reported that at least two people were wounded. On Thursday, the militants inside the school had released some 26 of the hundreds of hostages held inside the building since Wednesday.
Wondering if one of these idiots "accidentally" blew himself/herself up, setting up a whole chain reaction?
Of course. There was a story in the Chi. Tribune today about a woman who was released, but was forbidden to take both her children -- she had to CHOOSE ONE TO LEAVE BEHIND!!
What's left of humanity is shrieking today.
I guess it could be done without "nuking Mecca", although it would be more difficult.
Dear Lord. I am crying right now. God help them all.
From what they're saying on Fox, it was done deliberately, not accidentally--so they cowards could escape. And of course they left the little children to burn alive. These aren't even "suicide" killers--they don't even have enough honor to kill themselves.
Kind of seems a little hectic... not sure it was done on purpose. The rescue workers had just gotten there to remove bodies... so you know lots of eyes on the situation. Then reports of them running into other buildings, grabbing whomever they could as shields.
I am hoping we hear something from Pres. Bush regarding this. He has to address this.
I think he's addressing it by his comments about not relenting. To do more is potentially disruptive to undecided voters. Let them think over the alternatives on their own.
350 hospitalised after assault on Russian school: Interfax
Russian forces storm hostage school; dozens killed, some 310 wounded
No, actually, the reports are that the terrorists methodically changed clothing (to civvies) before setting off the explosions. They planned this as a way to escape with their miserable useless murdering lives.
He's speaking now, but it's all campaign stuff. Maybe later he'll have a formal comment on it. I agree, something should be said.
Prayers for the innocent.
May all of the Islamonazis go to Islamohell.
Then Putin needs to hunt down and exterminate any adult associated with this outrage.
If outside agitators like George $oreA$$ financed this act of terror or the bombing of the two airplanes, they need to brought to Russia for trial and punishment of their crimes against innocents.
Still, something about the timing is not right. I think we are going to find out later this was not exactly the way they planned it.
"The embassy rescue in Peru has to be the most successful of all time."
But the Peruvian Army had lots of time to plan. They dragged out negotiations, they delivered the doughnuts, one day became like the next for the terrorists as miners dug tunnels under the embassy. The days became weeks. The commandos rehearsed and rehearsed. Some had been trained here at Fort Benning but the credit goes to the Peruvians.
The Russian in the Theartre crises had no time as hostages were being killed.
Hey, mo-slimes - proud of yourselves?
I disagree. He's cast himself as a warrior against "terror", not just "American" terror. He has to directly address this. He has to publicly express his condolences and outrage at this news.
They raised the ante well over the bar, and there is no reason to believe these al Qaeda-trained terrorists will not have their actions copied here someday.
How much choice did the Russians have? If the option is some dead vs. all dead, you go with the course of action which will result in the least loss of innocent life.
Now we know.
