Welcome to Wednesday's Hurricane Frances news-twist !

It looks like a Melbourne Landfall after all, once again (to Section9's worst fears) churning it's way North along the Coast Highway ...

Man, I like this time of year less and less as I get older!
How are the dogs doing?

"Man, I like this time of year less and less as I get older!"

No kidding. My back has been hurting lately, lol.

" How are the dogs doing?"

Dogs are doing just great.

My fear on this hurricane is that it will plow across Florida, go back into the Gulf and make its way over here. Sure hope not.

I read a thing in this year's Yachtsman's Guide to the Bahamas, on the section on Bahamian weather, that it is theorized (somewhere) that we can expect greater than normal hurricane activity for the next 20 years or so.

The last couple of years didn't bear that out, but we are making up for lost time this year. Unfortunately.

I have some very close friends in Boca, not sure what they are up to right now. I remember when they bought hurricane shutters after Andrew hit down here, their neighbors actually laughed at them. I bet they're not laughing now.

We're invited up there for Rosh Hashanah in a couple weeks, hope that'll come off as planned.

Yep, Bush's fault ;-)

crap. well I wish you the best, homie.

Some good friends of ours live at the very end of Palmetto on the east side of the bridge (1 block from A1A)

They are coming here, with their 4 cats.. and we have 4 cats.. Sooo I'm expecting a possible category 4 hurricaine outside, and a category 26 inside. ;-)

Bones.

I am about 1/4 mile west of federal so at least I am not in an evacuation zone. Should be interesting.

Wherever they send Mike Siedel, that area will be safe. He's human hurricane repellent.

LOL!!!!!!!! But he gets a nice jacket out of the deal!!!!! :-)

What do you need a generator for?

My elderly parents were without power for seven - that's SEVEN - days in Polk County (central Florida) following Charley. Yes, they could not refrigerate food or run their A/C in the 90 degree weather. Life was NOT fun at all for those seven days!

I got my lumber yesterday. Got half the job done tonight; will put the rest of the lumber up in the early morning.

Stay safe, everyone!

Be Seeing You,

Chris

That is much better than what we went through with Andrew. Actually one neighbor had a generator and we wanted to kill him. He had the thing going all night and it was amazing how noisy that thing was when you dont have anything else making sounds (besides the bugs).

Yeah, I was putting up shutters 'til about 10:00 tonight.
Probably going to skip art class in the AM and finish with them then.

I was in Perrine, east of the highway.

Howdy former neighbors! I lived just off of Eureka Drive in Cutler Ridge. The northern eye wall of Andrew passed over my neighborhood, 165 mph winds. I live in Broward now (Davie), and this storm is scarin me for sure, when all previous since Andrew have barely drawn a look from me...

Tommorrow, my extended family will make the rounds, putting up shutters on all our houses. Mine will be last, I have no shutters or wood, but I hope I'll have some leftovers from the 4 houses that will be done before mine...

You know, alot of people secretly hope the storm hits them, you know, just to test their mettle or whatever, I know I was like that before Andrew... I am definately NOT that way now... "Rain, rain, go away...."

If you look at the water vapor sat map on the NHC page, there is a large area with no clouds and just blackness aside from the hurricane.

That is the ridge, whereas the areas of clouds are more dominated by low pressure (to varying degrees..doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be getting a bunch of rain, just that a staunch ridge is not in place).

I ran my generator at night too, after I got a little window unit AC to sleep with. The whole family camped out in that one room for 3 weeks, 'til we got electric restored.

Some other folks were doing the same, though, so no wars erupted. Across the street camped out in their motor home, ran the generator in that thing nonstop for 3 weeks.

I am so hoping not to be doing that kind of stuff all over again.

Hey neighbor!!!! I'm about 8 miles from Eureka right now and will be passing by your neck of the woods tomorrow on the way to my parents to help them board up.

Looks like this thing might be coming closer to our area than they previously though. Hope you and your family are safe through this, and we all meet back up on FR, after we have power back, to discuss happier things.
