Whoever wrote and approved their routine is old enough to know better. They were ridiculous and a total waste of air time.

Lest we forget: The presence of the Bush twins tonight does not begin to compare to Chelsea "We don't talk to the military" Clinton participating in the Mideast Peace Meetings.

I don't know if it was even an attempt to get voters. These are W's kids! For all the stuff that he has to deal with on a day to day basis, independent parents could look at this and say, christ his kids are just like mine.


Reaching a bit on my part? Maybe. But kids will be kids no matter how hard we hope otherwise.

On Fox, most panellists did basically the same thing:
Kristol, Kondracke, and Fred Barnes said both the twins and Laura didn't do much to help the President's cause--one of them even called the twins "ditzes".I was a bit surprised that they all took this same tack---maybe it was mostly by comparison with Arnold's speech. But a few minutes later, Chris Wallace from the floor took issue pointedly with all 3 of them, and thought all the women did very well indeed, with the twins coming across as completely unaffected and natural.

In all honesty, they were not that good. But they are just kids and admittedly not all that politically astute.

Do not judge the girls by what they were "COERCED" to say...remember every word/speech is highly scripted therefore what Jenna and Barbara were forced to say is not by far, their choice!

Do you really think that some fat and bold guy and/or your oh'so metrosexual fellow, cooking up the speech has any degree of humor? Jenn's and Barb's speech made my point.

I have liked all of the speakers because they hit a different part of people.

Actually Wolf usually prefers a strapless la-may but he had gone more "conservative" this week because of the convention.

I agree that they went on for about 5 minutes too long, but I think they were sincere and their laughter was genuine. Kind of like a 6th grade Christmas concert. The kids sing off key but you still applaud and forgive their tone deafness.

I think they're pretty hot too. I'm from Vermont, but damn, red-blooded Texas babes with bourbon-and-mollasses accents can say what ever the heck they want! Jenna's my favorite.

It's clear Laura hates giving speeches but I think she did a credible job. Americans are very thoughtful and give a lot of leeway to the unpolished as long as their sincere.

Arnold gave the best speech yet! He reminded me of my pride in being an American.

The twins' performance WAS pretty forgettable, IMHO. It was too long and too contrived, period.

Whether it was good or not, though, was also irrelevant, as far as real news is concerned.

SO, if CNN dwelt on that, they were stupid.

The girls' function was simply some filler time between Laura's and Arnold's speech.

I think Laura did great for the women who were listening.

And I thought Arnold's speech was magnificent.

I thought what the daughters did was inappropriate for the occasion, and puerile. But it is all harmless and irrelevant. Laura Bush went on for too long, and was too into policy, and that grated too.

This was not about them it was about introducing their mother. These girls were having fun, not insulting us with attitude. At least they did not pretend to be something they are not.

In the grand scheme of things sargon, I'm with you on this. If we had to count on the twins for the quote of the night, this converntion would be screwed.

Besides, Barbara Bush was laughing her A off in the background. There is nothing worse than a group of people who take themselves too seriously.

Maybe they should have gotten up and given a testimonial on how alcoholism is bad for families...?

Even Barnes, Kondracke and Kristol on Fox were critical of the girls - it must be tough for such knowledgable, dynamic sophisticates as are these press people to sit through even a few minutes of innocent, good-natured folksy fun which offers so little substance for them to prognosticate and pontificate about when it's all over......

I personally would like to apologize to the President and Mrs. Bush for all the trashing of their daughters done on this site tonight.
