Who Will Be the Republican Presidential Candidate in 2008?

Posted on 08/25/2004 11:26:45 AM PDT by French-American Republican

What politicians are seen as likely contenders for the Republican nomination? Who is most likely to get the nomination? Who would you like to see as the candidate? Should Cheney run? Is Cheney planning to run?

Nope. A pro abort will split the Pubs and destroy it.

Vincente Fox. He could be VP for either democrats or republicans.

I live in PA and work in NJ, and I have to puke at the number of cars I see with Kerry bumper stickers. Sorry to be so pessimistic: If sKerry wins this November (which, unfortunately looks more likely every day with the lamestreamers carrying water for him), look for GWB to run again in 2008, with either Condi Rice or Rudy Giuliani as veep. Americans will suffer a huge case of "buyer's remorse", as the Poodle takes us from the 2-lane road to socialism to the 8-lane superhighway, leaving us more and more vulnerable to Islamofascist terrorism with each passing day. If we still have the right to vote in 2008 (!), GWB will win by a landslide.

There's a historical precedent for this: I think it was Grover Cleveland that served 2 4-year terms separated by 4 years. Of course, if my pessimism proves unfounded, look for a Rudy/Condi ticket in 2008! :-)

Tancredo? He can close the borders, if there's a country left...

He'd get my vote!

Rudy won't challange Hilly in 2006, only to run for President in 2008. Makes no sense.

Hilly at least has the good sense to run for president after being Senator for 8 years. She won't lose her Senate seat ever, I don't think.

Rudy can and should challenge her for the Presidency. As early east coast returns come in, and its clear that Rudy has won both NY and NJ (which we would in a one-on-one with Hilly I think), and begins winning states in the South (for all the talk of disenchanted Conservatives, I can't believe they would be so immature and childish as to vote for Hilly, or allow her to win their states by inaction).

Rudy is not perfect, but he looks like a saint next to Hilly. And ultimately that's what it's all about. He is a superb leader and executive, and well suited to lead in the later phases of the War on Terror, I think, by his leadership capabilities and tough, no-nonsense style.

A few will moan that Rudy likes gay people and is for partial-birth abortion. The truth is, there's nothing wrong with having acquaintences who are gay, and he won;t be able to affect change on the Partial Birth Abortion issue which would have been settled by 2008 in the Courts. It's the law right now, and now we will find out if it passes Constitutional muster.

President Rudy won't be able to change that, as a practical matter.

Any single-issue conservatives alienated by Rudy will be offset by conservative and moderate democrats who will be turned off by Hilly, and turned on by Rudy. Rudy and a good VP gather, I suspect, around 400 EVs, about 75-100 more than I expect Bush will win.

Single-issue voters like that will only alienate themselves, and be comical in their public tantrums. They will be diminished in influence, and that may end up being a good thing.

I've seen the future, and it's Rudy. Republicans will understand that in 2008.

The alternative is downright creepy.

Here is the list who is likely running.

Patiki (He flop worst than Pete Wilson.)

Ridge (He be running for VP and not upset anyone.)

Mitt Romey (Becoming the favorite of the base with Owens trail seperation.)

Bill Owens (Even through if he was I throught he would of ran to the senate.)

Bill First (Doubtful aftert Amendment debacle.)

Fred Thompson (With an opening in the south. Will not run if McCain runs.)

Elizabeth Dole (Do not count here out trying again, after all we need a Dole or Bush on the ticket.)

Jeb Bush (I doubt he running. Seems to hate the national stage.)

Connie Rice (More like VP.)

Tommy Thompson (Rumor is he wants to lift the bans on drugs from other counties, upset with Bush about it.)

John McCain (He running.)

Chuck Hagel (Only if McCain does not.)

I think rudy will run only if Bush wins. The theory is it be a easy race because a lot of dems will vote for Rudy because they like him and be "setting Hilly free" to run for president. If Kerry wins not sure because Hillary will fight for the seat because no where to go.

I know that Frist will be running. Doubt he can get the nomination though.

Well, it is a dream, but I would LIKE to see J.C.Watts run for president. Won't ever happen.

Who might run? Condi Rice

Romney/Rice

That's a hell of a ticket.

I love Rick Santorum, but it's very hard for a senator to get elected prez.

An article on the editorial page of the WSJ says that the 2008 candidate should be Rudy Guliani.

If Bush wins, Rudy ignores the NY Senate and Governors House and goes for the Presidency.

If Kerry wins, Rudy is the natural challenger for him, and a strong one at that. He is the best card the GOP has to play.

NY isn't concerned about 'setting Hilly free' - I lived there for 33 years and she is NYC's celebrity Senator. There is no need to set her free as she can run for the PResidency in 2008 as a sitting Senator - it's done all the time (look at Kerry).

The truth is, I don't think Rudy can win the Senate seat from Hilly, though I think he can win NY State in a Rudy-Hilly Presidential Challeneg. Makes sense? Not to me either, but that's my feeling.

"Who Will Be the Republican Presidential Candidate in 2008?"

The Republican party has lots of good candidates but the only one with star quality is Rudy Giuliani. His Italian roots will also pull in "Reagan Democrats" of Italian, Polish, and other ethnic backgrounds in battleground states who will be glad to see that one of their own can become President. He will also make New Jersey and other Northeastern states competitive and will force the Democrats to squander resources defending their own territory.

Relax. Rudy is a good man and a good leader that I admittedly don't agree with 100%. But I don't expect to agree with a presidential candidate anywhere close to 100%.

Rudy will make a wonderful President.

You're assuming that there won't be a major third party right wing candidate, but I think the left will massively fund a candidate to split the right if Rudy is the nominee.

My personal favorite: Rick Santorum.

He is not a party-player........very conservative and straightforward.....He would be MY first choice, too.

I just don't think the "Republican Party" would allow it........

Ones I have informed of that have a new-found respect for Republicans because of demonstrated ability to play the game.
