Witnesses see explosion before plane goes down.

Sounds like shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile.

Air Canada lost all engines on a 767. Put it down on a drag strip. No problems.

Gliding an airliner down is not something that can be done every time they lose all engines. While it has been done several times, there is no guarantee that every pilot could do it.

We really need a better education in logic.

Why do you come to that conclusion?

The first plane disappeared from radar at 10:56 p.m. (2:56 p.m. ET), a ministry spokeswoman said.

The Tupolev-134 had taken off from Moscow's Domodedovo Airport and was en route to Volgograd, in southern Russia.

The second plane, a Tupolev-154, disappeared at 11 p.m. (3 p.m. ET) after having taken off from the same airport en route to Sochi in southern Russia, Ria Novosti reported.

...and one timer that was set 6 minutes fast.

My first question when my brother told me about this was who was on the planes... In Afgahanistan he was paying rent to the taliban, who would he be paying this time?

That is because the eyewitnesses had so many different stories that they're considered unreliable. Almost every story has major details different than the others.

True, but you have plenty of time to talk to ARTCC and declare an emergency, etc. There was no radio contact here.

Plane crashes in Russia 25 August 2004

MOSCOW: A plane carrying 62 people crashed in Russia's Tula region south of Moscow on Tuesday, Itar-Tass reported.

The Tu-154 aircraft, with 54 passengers and eight crew on board, crashed near the village of Buchalki, some 180km south of Moscow, the agency said, quoting a local civil defence and emergencies official.

In a separate report, Interfax news agency said air controllers lost contact with a Tu-154 taking 44 passengers from Moscow to the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

It quoted the Emergencies Ministry as saying contact stopped at 7am (NZ time) when it should have been 140km from the southern city of Rostov-on-Don.

It was not immediately clear if this was the plane that crashed near Tula, more than 800km northeast of Rostov.

Tupolev's Tu-154 jet remains the standard medium-range airliner on domestic flights in Russia, according to aviation websites. Some 48m in length, it can carry up to 180 passengers for up to 4000km.

We'll start with a gentle "No evidence of terrorism." (Because it's all still smouldering in a field!)

Simultaneous Crash.

Terrorism, pure and simple. I don't believe in those kinds of coincidences.
