XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE AUG 24, 2004 11:09:31 ET XXXXX

KERRY PHONES SWIFT BOAT FOES

**Exclsuive**

Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry personally phoned anti-Kerry swift boat vets, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry reached out to Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) Sunday night, just hours after former Sen. Bob Dole publicly challenged Kerry to apologize to veterans.

Brant was skipper of the #96 and # 36 boat and spent time with Kerry in Anm Thoi. Kerry and Brant slept in the same quarters, and Brant used to put Kerry back to be at night when Kerry was sleepwalking.

Brant received a call from Kerry at his home in Virginia while he was watching the Olympics on TV.

The call lasted 10 minutes, sources tell DRUDGE.

KERRY: "Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?"

BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.

[Brant had two men killed in battle.]

KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."

Kerry then asked if he could meet Brant -- man to man -- face to face.

Brant declined the invite, explaining that Kerry was obviously not prepared to correct the record on exactly what happened during Vietnam and what happened when Kerry came back.

Kerry could always say his testimony during the 70's was just a sleepwalking episode and he doesn't remember any of it. It's worth a shot.

Considering his delivery, it's not even all that implausible. He certainly didn't sound like he had engaged his brain before opening his mouth.

You are not misunderstanding.

I came back to this thread to tack on that Major Garrett reported on Fox that he confirmed the story.

He played a bit of his taped interview with Brant (Major played just the very beginning of his interview to demonstrate he had spoken to him and has it documented then he straight reported the rest) who told him basically the same thing Drudge reported.

Brant told Garrett that Kerry called him and said there was a group attacking him and Brant said "I know. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and I are one". Garrett reported Brant saying that is what and how he told Kerry.

Garrett said Brant described an uncomfortable pause and then Kerry said "Why are you doing this".

Brant said he told him because 30 years ago he called all of them war criminals.

Garrett reported that Brant was then told by Kerry that he didn't mean all of them, just some of them.

Kerry is Bush's best campaign ad; too bad they don't use more of him.

So OKAY; the REST of you Veterans; did you hear this; Kerry did not slime HIS friends. . .it was the 'rest of you' who were the 'bad guys'. . .

OMG; Kerry is simply skerry. . .and getting more so; everyday. . .

So, basically, he's screwed any way he turns. If he committed atrocities, why did he do it away from his own area of operation? And, if he did it there, he's implicating his buddies. He didn't think playing the Vietnam card through too well, did he?

Uh-oh... I'm getting flashbacks to the NJ senatorial race. Any clue on how presidential election law handles a candidate from a major party droppin out of the race? Especially post-Lausenberg-precendent

It shouldn't be a problem. You don't actually vote for President, you vote for electors. The electors then vote for the President and Vice President. They don't have to vote for the ticket as a pair, but they are separate votes. That's a change from the original scheme which had the person getting the second highest number of votes for President elected as the Vice President. Can you imagine a Bush-Gore administration? Something similar actually happened, which is why we have the 12th amendment which set up the current system.

Anyway, they can just as well vote for a Clinton-Edwards ticket as a Kerry-Edwards one, whether Kerry's name got removed from the ballot or not. Just who appoints the electors nominally assigned to each party's candidate varies by state, as does the details of choosing them from the votes. Most states are winner take all, but a few pick them by congressional district, with the statewide winners getting the two electors corresponding to the state's two senators.

Is this the fellow they were talking about on the news who served with Kerry but has not said anything good or bad about his behavior?

No, Cdr. Brant was one of the signers of the original letter to Kerry stating "It is our collective judgment that, upon your return from Vietnam, you grossly and knowingly distorted the conduct of the American soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen of that war (including a betrayal of many of us, without regard for the danger your actions caused us). Further, we believe that you have withheld and/or distorted material facts as to your own conduct in this war. The letter also asked him to "to provide a full, accurate accounting of your conduct in Vietnam", and to sign a form 180 authorizing release of all his military records.

It was a Free Republic thread that got me curious so I watched the re-run later that evening. Chris had obviously read the book...completely different from when Ms. Malkin was on. I think he was comtemptuous of Kerry's politcal smarts or lack there of.

This is the point where I think the Swift Boat controversy is off base, I don't care about the medals, many guys got medals that if you look at the exact circumstance's as to why they received it and then look at the wording of the regulations they likely didn't qualify. Some medals were given because we had a very serious motivation problem over there.Obviously many awards were deserved.

But those other guys aren't running for President AND making the medals and the "hero" status they supposedly confer as the cornerstone of their campaign.

The Swift Vets were there, most saw alot more combat than Kerry, they've earned the right to critisize any way they see fit.

That said, you'll note that they've "moved on", to the little matter of stabbing the rest of the troops in the back, and giving aide and comfort to the enemy while the fighting was still going on. Many of the Swift Vets and the former POWs in the second ad were still in Vietnam (south and north respectively) when Kerry was meeting with the enemy in Paris, and lying before Congress. I think the "medals" controversy was mostly just a matter of preparing the field for the "battle" to come. Even the POW thing might be a bit of strategic misdirection, but only time, and the next ad or two, will tell.

Two states, Maine and one other give the winner the two electoral votes representing the senators and apportion the remainder by who won the congressional districts.

That other state is Nebraska.

On behalf of all decent Nebraskans, I apologize.

That horrible excuse for a man - Kerry, is going to call EVERY person he ever knew in An Thoi, and twist arms, or offer bribes until he meets their price.

Suddenly I feel like Mister Rood did a not-so-honorable thing this weekend, and the quirky way Rood announced his "this is my one-an-only time I'm going to speak on this subject" suddenly makes MUCH more sense!

This seems to also show that Kerry does not have a good set of 'blackmail files' on his swift boat peers. That must be why the Clintons were so franticly trying to 'make-a-deal' with Kerry this weekend.

They have become terrified of Mainstream America in the past few years.

Remember how Klintoon had the howitzers for the cannon salute at his inauguration placed in such a manner that there was no way they could fire the salute facing him? He was terrified a soldier would stick a live round in one of the pieces and blow his a** away.

The Dhimmicrats have been afraid of the real America (meaning America outside of NYC, Baaaaaaaaaaaahstuhn, San Fransicko, and Hollyweird)since Carter was thrown out like last week's garbage. Remember, they haven't won an election with a strong majority (Carter won by the skin of his teeth, and Johnson's sweep was due to national mourning following Kennedy's death) since Truman. Clinton was elected with 42% and 49% respectively (THANK YOU, Perotistas, you freaking MOROONS!), and likely would never have won a majority in a two-way race.

Kerry needs to be stopped, no question about it. His "Let the UN run everything" approach signals the death knell for our individual liberties (international gun control, foreign control over American borders, etc.)and American sovereignty. We need to NOT vote for third parties, but unite behind GW. A vote for the Libertarian Party or the Constitution Party candidate is a vote for Kerry.
THINK, PEOPLE!!!

I wonder when Kerry will enlist Bruce "Mr Fixit" Lindsay to start visiting the Swift Vets with sworn affadavits for them to sign...

A little late for that, several of them have already signed them. Not to JF'nK's benefit of course.

Moi Kerri has two things"

1. Over a Billion $'s between his wife and his buddies like George $orea$$, who can buy a lot of loyalty. I would like to see every pro Kerry Navy Vet's checking accounts for the past couple years.

2. He can hire some of the meanest lawyers and private eyes to make your life miserable if you don't become one of his swiftboat brothers.

BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.

Correction - the impact on POW's, GI's, Marines, and Airmen - the Kerry infamous testimony affected all of them and their families as well.

This also affected the military and their families:

HE SAID CHECK THE RECORD
Sen. John Kerry, Democrat from Massachusetts says he is the strongest Presidential Candidate on National Defense! He said Check the Record..

We Did!!
and
Here is what we learned:

He voted to kill the Bradley Fighting Vehicle
He voted to kill the M-1 Abrams Tank
He voted to kill every Aircraft carrier laid down from 1988
He voted to kill the Aegis anti aircraft system
He voted to Kill the F-15 strike eagle
He voted to Kill the Block 60 F-16
He voted to Kill the P-3 Orion upgrade
He voted to Kill the B-1
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the Patriot anti Missile system
He voted to Kill the FA-18
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the F117
He voted to kill every military appropriation for the development and deployment of every weapons systems since 1988, including a bill for battle armor for our troops.

It is most likely, with Sen. John Kerry as President and Commander in Chief of our Armed Services, that they will cease to function making it impossible for our country to protect itself John Kerry voted to kill all anti-terrorism activities of each and every agency of the U.S. Government.

He voted to cut the funding of the FBI by 60%.
He voted to cut the funding for the CIA by 80%.
He voted to cut the funding for the NSA by 80%.
THEN, and this is abhorrent to almost every American Voter be you Democrat, Republican or Independent, he voted to increase OUR funding for U.N operations by 800% !!

Ask yourself Is THIS the person you want as President of these United States providing for the Common Defense of the Nation and be the Leader of the Free World ?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Voting history can be accessed through Senate voting records. The above is an accurate summary.
