XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE AUG 24, 2004 11:09:31 ET XXXXX
KERRY PHONES SWIFT BOAT FOES
**Exclsuive**
Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry personally phoned anti-Kerry swift boat vets, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Kerry reached out to Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) Sunday night, just hours after former Sen. Bob Dole publicly challenged Kerry to apologize to veterans.
Brant was skipper of the #96 and # 36 boat and spent time with Kerry in Anm Thoi. Kerry and Brant slept in the same quarters, and Brant used to put Kerry back to be at night when Kerry was sleepwalking.
Brant received a call from Kerry at his home in Virginia while he was watching the Olympics on TV.
The call lasted 10 minutes, sources tell DRUDGE.
KERRY: "Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?"
BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.
[Brant had two men killed in battle.]
KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."
Kerry then asked if he could meet Brant -- man to man -- face to face.
Brant declined the invite, explaining that Kerry was obviously not prepared to correct the record on exactly what happened during Vietnam and what happened when Kerry came back.

interesting
Douglas Brinkley is now saying that the diaries the Kerry Campaign still refuses to release weren't written at the time, but were instead "reconstructed" years later for a book proposal. They're setting up the defense of the first purple heart that Kerry was simply wrong when he wrote this in his "diary."
Since there are Clintonistas on board with the campaign now, I suspect he has been asking if they have a cat.
They likely did, because of John O'Neill's interview yesterday on Rush, and on Baltimore's 680 morning show today. O'Neill is actually starting to get pretty fiesty...I can't remember exactly what he called Kerry on this show, but he obviously loathes him. It didn't damage his credibility, but I hope he can keep the laid back, calm tone that he's maintained up to this point.
What's that sound? Sounds like a fish on the dock, but it...it.. looks like John Kerry. It Is! FLIP FLOP, FLIP FLOP, FLIP FLOP.
Seems like I heard there is a museum in Viet Nam with a special room dedicated to John Kerry. Is that true?
bump to support SWIFTVETS... http://www.swiftvets.com/
The call was either a threat or an apology.
There really is no middle ground.
The swift vets should also demand an apology from McCauliffe, Lanny Davis, Howard Dean, Edwards, Matthews and every other liberal puke who slandered them.

I thought the candidates weren't allowed to communicate directly with the 527s.
Not even apologetic. What an ass.
Oh, please God, let there be a recording of this.
KERRY:
"Hi, is this John O'Neill? This is John Kerry."
O'NEILL:
"John Kerry?"
"John Forbes Kerry?"
"Lietuenant John Forbes Kerry?"
...cut to news conferece announcing Kerry's resignation from the presidential race...
But how would that help him? His entire campaign the convention and everything is based on "War hero with the integrity to criticize the war after serving". Now he's going to say well actually these Vietnam veterans were right 35 years ago I slandered them without reason.
I'd be totally shocked if he follows that route even with the media covering his back.
The man is unfit to command. He can't even run his own mind, let alone an entire country.
If the Vets have told the truth on these three items, why not believe they're telling the truth on everything? Kerry is a lying opportunist, nothing more.
"hadn't been shot at yet."
That is the smoking gun.
The Purple Heart requirements allows the award of a Purple Heart for self inflicted wounds.......but only those self-inflicted wounds were received "in the heat of battle".
How could Kerry possibly have been "in the heat of battle" while never having been "shot at yet"?
*********************************
5) Examples of injuries or wounds which clearly do not qualify for award of the Purple Heart are as follows:
(a) Frostbite or trench foot injuries.
(b) Heat stroke.
(c) Food poisoning not caused by enemy agents.
(d) Chemical, biological, or nuclear agents not released by the enemy.
(e) Battle fatigue.
(f) Disease not directly caused by enemy agents.
(g) Accidents, to include explosive, aircraft, vehicular, and other accidental wounding not related to or caused by enemy action.
(h) Self-inflicted wounds, except when in the heat of battle, and not involving gross negligence.
Excerpted from Drudge:
BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.
[Brant had two men killed in battle.]
KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."
