KERRY PHONES SWIFT BOAT FOES

Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry personally phoned anti-Kerry swift boat vets, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry reached out to Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) Sunday night, just hours after former Sen. Bob Dole publicly challenged Kerry to apologize to veterans.

Brant was skipper of the #96 and # 36 boat and spent time with Kerry in Anm Thoi. Kerry and Brant slept in the same quarters, and Brant used to put Kerry back to be at night when Kerry was sleepwalking.

Brant received a call from Kerry at his home in Virginia while he was watching the Olympics on TV.

The call lasted 10 minutes, sources tell DRUDGE.

KERRY: "Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?"

BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.

[Brant had two men killed in battle.]

KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."

Kerry then asked if he could meet Brant -- man to man -- face to face.

Brant declined the invite, explaining that Kerry was obviously not prepared to correct the record on exactly what happened during Vietnam and what happened when Kerry came back.

Talk about implosions. Kerry is one scary guy. And what frightens me even more is that a good 40% or more of the voters will VOTE for this guy no matter what.

Drudge was careful to place quotation marks around certain passages. My impression was that the conversation was recorded. Let's hope so. I would love the next Swift ad to contain Kerry's voice disparaging all vets except the swifties.

This is the point where I think the Swift Boat controversy is off base, I don't care about the medals, many guys got medals that if you look at the exact circumstance's as to why they received it and then look at the wording of the regulations they likely didn't qualify. Some medals were given because we had a very serious motivation problem over there.Obviously many awards were deserved.

The real problem is what Kerry did upon his return, he saw what he thought was his ticket to celebrity and took advantage of it, it didn't matter who he hurt. He may not have even made the evening news if he said there were a couple guys over there committing crimes. He knew he needed to lie and say all of us were criminals. He knew how much this hurt us and he didn't care because his career was planned out at this point and he was moving ahead without regard for the truth.

People believed him and others like him. I will never forget a young boy at LAX was pulled away from me by his mother as he began to approach me and I was told by the Mother to stay away from him.

Last night I went over to see what the idiots were saying for a few minutes.

Some had the idea of Kerry getting with the Swifties privately to kiss and make up in a "group encounter".

I hate to say this, but from what I saw last night Kerry is going to repeat the atrocities claim. He is going to portray himself as a brave soldier who just had to speak up about the war crimes...In other words, Vietnam vets prepare yourself to be called baby killers again. Kerry is about to slime you once more. He will earnestly explain that though you committed these heinous acts, it wasn't your fault...it was Richard Nixon's evil Republican administration...You were merely pawns...like him in an immoral, unpopular war. Kerry will explain he was trying to help the Vietnam vet...end the war so no more would die (sorry, gag, barf). That's what he is going to do; prepare yourself.
