this truly makes me want to puke....
"My problems are not with the American people. They are with what America has done in Iraq: destroy everything...The American army has killed so many people in Iraq. What is freedom when I go to the (national) stadium and there are shootings on the road?" -- Iraqi coach Adnan Hamad told SI.com.

it's like listening to liberal democrats here in the states. Have they forgetten Uday and Usay (Saddam's degenerate sons) torture and execution of "non-performing" athletes?
Ungrateful SOBs. Western democracy may not work in the middle east, because it appears they prefer brutality and oppression as a way of life.
(and f**k USA-Today for reporting this bullsh*t!)
A Bush ad mentions their team and Afghanistan's in passing, and they get outraged?? I smell a (Democ)rat.....

I wonder how long it will be before this ends up in a Democratic TV ad.
I hope Najah Ali keeps winning and I hope the Iraqi soccer team loses from here on out.
Perhaps this ingrate would prefer to go back to the old system? -- back when Iraqi team members were tortured for losing and killed for expressing political dissent.
There are no images of Iraqi soccer players in the ad.
Then why are their towells all in a wad?
Seems the Iraqis have been taking French lessons...
Missed one.
Who says this ingrate wasn't PART of the old system? THere seems a contradiction between his statements and the players' behavior on Friday.
According to an article entitled "Not your everyday Olympic team" by Christine Brennan USA TODAY at Yahoo Sports, it was the U.S. Air Force who airlifted the Iraqi soccer team out of Iraq so they'd be able to participate in the Games. Wonder how they're getting home?
Someone explain something to me: if these athletes feel this way, why do they represent Iraq? Who is paying for these athletes expense - the new regime, created after the war?

I've heard about that one player from Fallujah and the coach saying bad things. I didn't go to the link-does it list any others? It will be news and is disturbing, but what is the whole picture of the Iraqi Olympic team. We have our own quackers here in the US. It is inevitable that Iraq will still have these nutjobs. I just want to know if it is widespread. Seems as if these reporters continue to look for only that because they don't print the other side that's for sure.
"International sports bureaucrats, it should be remembered, turned a blind eye to Uday Hussein's treatment of his athletes. During his tenure as head of Iraq's soccer federation, Saddam's son subjected losing players to the worst torture.
His goons would drag players across pavement until their bare feet turned raw. Then the players were forced to jump in raw sewage. Even though these human-rights abuses were amply documented, Olympic and soccer officials never really voiced a substantial complaint against them."
