How Should Bush Respond to Kerry on the Swiftvets Issue?

Posted on 08/19/2004 3:09:04 PM PDT by AJFavish

Kerry has demanded that Bush denounce the Swiftvets' charges. I believe Bush should respond by stating something to this effect:

I am not in a position to endorse or denounce the charges made by the Swiftvets because all of the available records tht may have some bearing on the charges have not been released, including all of Sen. Kerry's military records.

The release of all such records is a minimum requirement for me to even consider denouncing the Swiftvets's charges or endorsing their charges.

When your opponent is punching himself in the face you walk over to a neutral corner.

Bush should just say it is a free country and the swift vets have a right to say what they want. He does not endorse their work and will stress the positive reasons to vote for him rather than negative reasons not to vote for Kerry.

Bush should offer Kerry medical assistance. The Swiftvets have already drawn far more blood than all of Kerry's Purple Hearts put together.

He could say that they have as much right to speak as any other vet.

At some point "OOPS" should be appropriate. Maybe even a "DAMMIT" these records should never have been released!!! We need to get to the bottom of this. I promise to appoint a comission to INVESTIGATE this improper release of personal data which will report as soon as the commision that investigated LINDA TRIPP's release of HER personal information, reports!!!

We must also realise that Kerry may purposely be encouraging these vets using the issue as a smoke screen to his flip-flops on the issues, his bad voting record...etc. Though I tend to believe the Vets over Kerry there may be a chance that Kerry's records may appear to prove this group is not being truthful. Kerry's military records may be his october surprise thus making Bush look bad (even though Bush is not behind it).
Best for Bush and republicans to continue to pin Kerry on his record in the Senate. The Swift Boat Veterans are doing just fine going against Kerry all by themselves. We, as citizens, can also support swift boat veterans by helping them get their story in mainstream media.

I agree. If asked or if it comes up in a debate he should merely respond:

That group doesn't speak for me and I don't speak for them. As for what happened, I repeat what I've said numerous times -- I honor Sen. Kerry's service to the country. If people want to debate what happened over 30 years ago, that's their business but this election is about the future and how we're going to protect and defend our nation. We don't have time to argue over events from another era.

He should say that the Swiftvets aren't Republican but patriots from Kerry's Naval Unit which have a personal problem with Kerry. .................. And he should say he thinks all 527s should be stopped, but he would never think of critizing veterans which have paid for their right to speak with their blood.

Best answer I've heard!

The White House is on the right track.

Kerry and the DNC are really ringing hypocrasy in whining after the Moore movie and the deluge of hate-Bush screeds.

I would suggest that the President, in his inimitable way, remind Mr. Kerry that, indeed, there are many groups in the democrat and republican camps who are exercising their rights in the political process through the movie and publishing industries, and we should all remember that all voices are heard whether we agree with them or not. I don't even know why this is a question.

Bush is doing what we wanted him to do from the beginning. Staying out of it.

He has universally opposed all 527's from the beginning, evidence verifies this position. The only way the media can touch him is if he gives them an opening. He gives them an opening if he singles out these vets or Kerry's role IN Vietnam. Any suggestion that Bush should do anything other than what he has would set him up for backlash, and detract from the truth the SBV's have related.

They have asked he stay out of it. I think for good reason. The minute the President involves himself it becomes political. They are interested in having the truth be known, not politics. It is personal for them.

As President of all our citizens, this isn't his fight.

When questioned by reporters, W should respond that he thanks Sen. Kerry for his service to the country and is far more concerned about his ultra liberal voting record of increasing taxes and cutting defense.

Those are the ONLY times he voted. He's been AWOL on the Senate floor 73% of the time.

Did anyone hear the military man on Brit Hume's show, tell of how Kerry had the Sec. of the Navy under Reagan sign an embellished citation for him?

Could anyone elaborate?

Supposedly Kerry "lost" his citations and asked for some more and when they came the 1986 citation was written -- and embellished -- by Lehman. It was after Kerry was elected to the Senate and he wanted them for the wall of his office; imagine that.
