Kerry Ad Hits Back at Veterans Group

WASHINGTON - A veteran who served with John Kerry (news - web sites) in Vietnam says the Democrat "risked his life to save mine" in a television ad that Kerry's presidential campaign rolled out Thursday to counter a spot that claims Kerry lied about his war record.
"All these Viet Cong were shooting at me," says Jim Rassmann, who was thrown off of the swift boat Kerry was manning. "I expected I'd be shot. When he pulled me out of the river, he risked his life to save mine."
The 30-second ad argues that the Navy documented Kerry's "heroism and awarded him the Bronze Star."
It also accuses Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which ran commercials in West Virginia, Ohio and Wisconsin, of being funded by President Bush (news - web sites)'s "big money supporters." The group is funded in part by Houston homebuilder Bob J. Perry, a GOP donor.
The campaign is spending a small amount, about $180,000, to run the ad in Ohio and Wisconsin. Aides said it also would run in West Virginia, although as of Thursday afternoon no airtime had been bought.
By running ads this month, Kerry is deviating from his decision to forgo advertising until September to save money. Spending any now is a risk for Kerry, who must make his $75 million general election government check stretch five weeks longer than Bush, whose spending isn't limited until he accepts his party nomination.
However, letting the attacks go unanswered in West Virginia, Ohio and Wisconsin could be even more costly for Kerry. The states are three of the most competitive and are home to socially conservative Democrats.
An affiliate of liberal interest group MoveOn.org, which is funded in part by wealthy Democrats, hit back with its own ads criticizing the veterans' claims in the three states. However, with his own ads, Kerry can precisely control the message.
Sounds like a non-denial denial to me...
Newest ad out today by Kerry.
Kerry is running scared...
And the swift boat vets say there was no enemy fire that day....so far this is a draw.
I visited. Where's the medical reports? Where's the spot reports from December (Cambodia) to January? Not there. Kerry's counting on viewers to fall for the deception that all his records are on the website.
One wonders what Jim Rassmann does for a living that he can afford to take off work for months at a time to go gallavanting all over the country making photo-ops with John F'n Kerry.
Could it be that he is on the Kerry payroll?
Not only that: why did Kerry falsely claim his rice-shrapnel wound as a combat wound in battle later that day?
Not just no enemy fire. They were in a river 75 yards wide for (I think) an hour and a half and no one was wounded after the initial mine explosion and there were no bullet holes in the boats. If a 60 year old one legged Viet Cong soldier with a musket was around, he would have hit the boats a few times during the "attack".
"And the swift boat vets say there was no enemy fire that day....so far this is a draw."
Even the combat report on Kerry's website from that day does not list any enemy fire - simply the mine explosion.
None of this would have happened if Kerry hadn't decided to use his medals for political gain. Despicable.
BOO HOO...........NOT
He has to be. My husband couldn't afford to do that. If I could I would be following Bush on the campaign trail hoping for a handshake, picture or autograph. I am a political junkie and a Bush fan. I wouldn't even cross the street to see kerry, let alone be his "buddie".
Superkerry on his secret mission.
He didn't do himself any favors by moving the focus to the authorship of the Bronze Star citation.
You mean Conservatives need to clean your ears. Poor John has an excuse too, remember he had his mind seared......
