Irony is alot of the folks that evacuated from the Tampa Bay area moved inward to stay in hotels. And since the storm came in south of where they predicted, they are now having more weather than if they had stayed on their homes on the beaches. But that's a hurricane for you...unpredictable.

I know some folks who left Galveston Island to visit relatives in San Antonio (close to 300 miles inland) when [I forget name] tropical storm was predicted to make landfall near Galveston.

It ended up missing Galveston *completely* (weather was bright and sunny in Galveston), but it wandered inland and then dropped a HUGE amount of rain right on San Antonio, causing major flooding and power outages.

My friends were not amused.

I was living in San Antonio when that hurricane came. We did have major flooding and some people were killed because of it. There was also a tornado spawned which took out part of the roof of the VA hospital.
