See coverage in the Tampa Tribune http://www.tampatrib.com/ Lots of pics and some unconfirmed reports of minor damage in Lakeland. Sorry, can't deep link but it's all there on the front page.

Oh boy...well, I'll go with you, hoping that they evacuated and are fine in a shelter.

That's what I was afraid of. The last time I heard that phrase was when I was in a mobile home and a tornado near:')

We've been trying to phone friends in Cape Coral for hours now.

Phones are out in 95% of the area there. Best to try again in the morning. No power either--so it's hard to get around in the dark.

The absolute wind max at landfall was pretty small, and somewhat dodged the really heavily populated areas.

No kidding! Please tell me more.

Well, "Somewhat."

Have scattered chaser reports there is an area with Andrew-Like wind damage.....the reports from the absolute worst areas aren't in yet. But it missed Ft. Myers to the N...but part of the wind max did seem to get Port Charlotte, etc. A substantial, not huge, town.

Ah yes, I remember that LONG night well too. Of course I was the only one in my family awake all night listening to the transformers blowing and trees falling all night long. I don't EVER want to go through anything like that again.

We were lucky, we ended up with a smallish tree on our garage and several down in the back yard but no significant damage. We felt very fortunate after driving through town, the areas that we could even get through, and seeing rows of houses, every single one with trees on them.

We were at Crabtree tonight when the storm came through and they kept announcing on the PA system and the security guards were going to every store telling customers if they were parked on the lower parking deck level that they needed to go move their cars immediately because the parking deck was flooding. Can't imagine Crabtree Creek handling much more water tomorrow.

Jax radar showing the eye between I-95 and the beach, ust about two miles south of I-4.

Only a little more, and it will be at sea!

Thanks be to God that Sarasota/Venice were spared. Hope others are not suffering much damage.

We need a new roof so were not too upset at the thought of losing some tiles since our insurance might help with the replacement costs.

Have been praying for all my FL friends.
