NYC Welcomes GOP with 'Kill the President' Play

In advance of the GOP convention at the end of this month, New York City is being plastered with stickers that read, "I'm Gonna Kill the President" - supposedly an advertisement for a new off-Broadway play staged by the anti-war protest group United for Peace and Justice.

"It's the name of a new comedy to run in the East Village during the Republican Convention," WABC Radio's George Weber reported Tuesday morning.

Weber called the box office to find out what could be funny about the murder of an American president, and got this recorded response:

"Howdy," chirped a spokesman. "You've reached the information and instruction hotline for, 'I'm Gonna Kill the President - a Federal Offense."

The unidentified voice goes on to explain that that the play is the story of a young man's plot to kidnap the president in hopes of sparking a revolution that installs a puppet Democracy - featuring real puppets.

The play also includes an audience participation segment where theater-goers are supposed to crank call the White House to demand that President Bush end the war in Iraq.

"If you're some kind of law enforcement agent or official, hang up now," the information hotline concludes. "There's nothing illegal happening here. Just some old-fashioned, constitutionally sanctioned fun."

After Weber's report, WABC's "Curtis & Kuby Show" was deluged with callers outraged over the radical thespian stunt.

Even Communist lawyer-turned-commentator Ron Kuby sounded irked, explaining, "Generally speaking, you cannot directly threaten the president's life." While the play might be "on proper side of the first amendment," he said, "it's not by much."

Perhaps the theatre would be open minded to hosting another production called, " Kill all Liberals ". It's all constitutionally protected fun, right? ha. ha.

The sticker says "I'm Gonna Kill the President". You left out the first two words to make it sound like an order, which it is not. Either way, they are treading very thin ground. But I'll always defend the 1st Amendment.

You miss the point entirely. AGAIN...A sticker that says '"I'M GONNA KILL THE PRESIDENT" is not satirical.

Creepycrawly since june 24 2004

The far left is trying to entice someone to do it. A useful idiot who feels he'll be "a hero".

When the Village Gate had the play McBird (the plot was that Lyndon Johnson was responsible for the assasination of the JFK the first), the NY officials from building inspector, to fire inspector, etc, shut them down for various violations. Ultimately the play opened, but was severely delayed.

Not at all, remember the motto of Lenin and his Bolsheviks in 1917? Peace, Land and Bread!

The play opened last Fall. I understand how someone would be offended, but the article neglects to point out that it's a satire.

Gee... that must mean its ok then, hey its only satire. Is that a JOKE????

They even gave directions on how to get to the theater.

The directions put you on the north side of Tompkin Square Park.

I firmly believe that WHEN GWB wins there will be an assassination attempt. The left hates him so much they will not be able to hold that anger back any longer.

There are so many left wing haters out there, I doubt they'll wait for the election to try.

"those of us in the creative industry expect an INTELLIGENT President".

Check the video tape, Baldwin said, "those of us in the creative industry expect a really smart President".

That's the language a 4th grader would use.

Civil War is coming to the USA

And the other side won't even allow a toy gun in the house.

Of course, being socialists and commies, they expect the government to do the dirty work of any fighting for them.

"Of course, being socialists and commies, they expect the government to do the dirty work of any fighting for them."

And the government will call in the UN troops to "protect us." If there ever were a civil war, probably half the military would be on our side and the other half on the other. It would be total chaos. Excuse to call in the UN troops I'm afraid.

Seriously, I cannot believe our government will allow the UN to monitor our election. What is the problem? Do you remember people screaming that they were "disenfranchised" during the last presidential election? Do you also remember Clinton appearing on TV that night wagging his finger and threatening that monitors were keeping people from voting in certain places? Maybe there was a reason monitors would not allow certain people to vote. The monitors probably found that those people were going from voting place to voting place, voting multiple times or perhaps they were illegal aliens trying to vote. I highly doubt the monitors were just trying to intimidate people from exercising their right to vote.

I wonder about this too. But to the extent that any of them can think, Dick Cheney is the sum of Machiavelli, John Rockefeller, and George Patton. This gives them pause. But OTOH, all that hatred has to vent somewhere and concerts and fundraisers aren't going to be sufficient eventually.

Somebody please go to every "performance" of this sick event and yell "FIRE" right in the middle of the performance. Same principle they are using. Need a different Freeper for each night so they won't keep you out.
