Star Actor Will Smith to German Press: 9/11 Changed Nothing for Me (Another Hollywood Barf Alert!)
Davids Medienkritik (blog) ^ | August 9, 2004 | Ray D.

In an interview posted today on the website of a major Frankfurt newspaper under the title "George W. Bush Lied to Me," star actor Will Smith had some interesting things to say about the USA, President George W. Bush, Michael Moore and the September 11 terror attacks among other things.

When asked if 9/11 had changed anything for him personally, Smith answered:

No. Absolutely not. When you grow up black in America you have a completely different view of the world than white Americans. We blacks live with a constant feeling of unease. And whether you are wounded in an attack by a racist cop or in a terrorist attack, I’m sorry, it makes no difference.

It is interesting to note that, on a certain level, Smith is comparing American police officers, those charged with protecting society, with Islamic terrorists intent on destroying America and everything it stands for. Smith implies that racism is so rampant among America’s police that it is a threat equal in magnitude to black America as that of international terrorism. Instead of seeing 9/11 as a traumatic watershed event that contributed to uniting black and white America and healing racial tensions, Smith seems to believe that the terrorist attacks have had little impact on what he sees as the poor state of race relations in the USA.

Smith: "UN the Future, Fahrenheit 9/11 Funny and Interesting, Bush Lied to Me"

Smith also praised the United Nations as the idea of the future and mentioned that he had been in contact with Kofi Annan. He stated that he felt lied to by President George W. Bush and his administration when it came to the war in Iraq. He also had the following to say on Michael Moore's new film Fahrenheit 9/11:

“I found the film very funny. I found it interesting, and if it contributes to more people waking up and looking into things and drawing their own conclusions, then that is a good thing. However, one should not view the film as the Bible.

Smith’s audiences in Germany and elsewhere in Europe will certainly be highly receptive to the actor’s views on his own country and will, as a result, likely flock in greater numbers to his film "I, Robot." What Americans make of all this is another matter indeed…we may have another Johnny Depp episode on our hands...

Smith has joined the chourus of vocal Bush haters.

Typically this is an indicator that their "stardom" is on decline.

Would this be accurate in Mr. Smith's case? The last movie I watched with him was "Men in Black". I'm not certain if he's had later successes.

Regardless, I thank the Hollywood community. They along with with the decline in quality productions have helped me cut ties with the "tube".

BTW, Mr. Smith, we all are subject to one form of bigotry or another. I am a white Fundamentalist conservative Christian. It doesn't mean all Americans hate conservatives, Christians or judge by the color of our skin. I do not pre-judge this country by the actions of some.

You are not subject to segregation by the majority, unless it is voluntary on your part. You are not whipped or held in chains. You are not prevented from having the right to a vote or prevented from learning to read. Americans of ALL colors and party fought so that this would be so. Stop maligning your country and recognize the bigotry in your own heart.

P.S. It is quite clear, isn't it? That 9-11 never happened for many of these people. 9-10 mentality.

"Wounded? You selfish, self-centered, self-absorbed piece of crap. Those people on the planes and in the towers were incinerated alive! You sorry excuse for a human being. Those racist cops raced up endless flights of stairs to save people of every color and hundreds of them were buried alive. "

Well stated. It covers 98% of Hollywood in one small paragraph.

His endeavors will not be getting any more economic support from me, if indeed it turns out he really said these things.

I think you're right. I can't imagine Mr. Smith sitting around at home, discussing current events with his friends. He sounds like he's spewing back all the blather he's heard from his neighbors in Hollywood.

It would be silly if it weren't so sad. The "Bush Lied, Thousands Died" dribble is just plain old. Everyone knows Bush did NOT lie, he was dealing with flawed intelligence... the same intelligence Clinton, Blair, Putin and other countries had. Mr. Smith seems like a real decent fellow, he just needs to get out of Hollywood more often.

He bashes Bush a little by saying that Bush lied to him, but then again, you may be right in that he is merely parroting the words of his surrounding echo chamber.

I sure do hope he will grow up one day. It sounds like he has access to parts of the upper echelon: Kofi Annan, John Kerry, the Governator (although he has no access to President Bush). If Annan wants him to play a part in the expansion of the UN, we cannot afford him to remain the dumbsh!t that he's making himself to be in this article.

About contacts to Bush:

Has the Bush administration aproached you requesting your help?

If you are as famous as I am, you get asked for help for a lot of things. Hollywood is traditionally a playing field for democrats. But to answer your question: Yes, of course. I turned them down.

You have to hand it to him. He's as cocky as all the characters he plays.

In cold Twin Cities weather, I hate it when moisture freezes on my nose hairs. It's a startling sensation when breathing through the nostrils. :-)

If the guy is as smart as he thinks he is, his research into the UN should make him conclude that that it is not about democracy and humanity. It's about limiting individual humans in favor of the state.

If he studied the Bible (ie. Revelation) it would be obvious to him as well as anyone else with half a brain what the un really is. (hint 666)

Black community that perceives muslims as more racially tolerant than White Christians

More clouded judgment on from the black community.

Let's be honest, Will, many young blacks cause feelings of unease, too.

For sure! It's not a passive feeling either -- they're aggressively threatening violence knowing any objections can be met with cries of "racism." I meet them regularly in L.A. and encountered a very large bunch of them on a trip to New Orleans a couple of weeks ago! If allowed to keep festering this is going to erupt into some very ugly stuff.

That's sad. Do you think there will ever be unity between all Americans in our lifetime? I hope it doesn't take another terrrorist attack to get us there.

Yes, at least Will Smith didn't endorse that damn thing Moore cranked out. I love his movies, and don't want to have to boycott his films.
