An anti John Kerry TV ad is causing controversy across the county including right here in Toledo.
A group of Vietnam veterans calls John Kerry a bad leader who lied to get his war medals. This sixty second ad by a group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, starts airing today in three battleground states including Ohio. In all, 13 Vietnam veterans accuse John Kerry of lying about his decorated war record and betraying his shipmates by later opposing the Vietnam War.
13 action news and Toledo Blade political analyst Fritz Wenzel says the ad comes just a week after the democratic convention when Kerry touted his war record. He also said "what this commercial does is undercuts that main claim to fame for him, it muddies that water more than anything else, we're talking about events more than 35 years old." Republican senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war called the ad "dishonest" and "dishonorable." McCain also called on the White House to condemn the ad as well. The White House has declined. UT political science professor David Davis, who's a Vietnam veteran, considers the ad unethical.
The big question is how will voters react? At least four stations, including 13 abc *will* air the advertisement from swiftvets.com.
According to Google News, this went up three hours ago on WTVG's site.
I know it's not just me, but I'm 3 for 3 this week with EMails to the media. This afternoon I sent WTVG this:
Dear Sir:
I have to suspect your sincerity as a news outlet.
I have heard that you refuse to show the advertisement
made by the SwiftVets.com. Do you ever refuse other
advertisements?
I served in Vietnam in 1971 on riverboats, and can tell you
point blank Kerry is a liar. If you care to challenge my veracity fee free to contact me at this email address or at my home phone number 978-xxx-xxxx.

I wonder how the good professor feels about the Boston Globe having one of their campaign reporters on the Kerry payroll?
Maybe I'm part DemocRAT but what does that mean?
P.S. Thank you for your service to America.
I hope more vets and regular folks will start donating to the SwiftVets group when the ad airs and they see it on television... I'm crossing my fingers hard that this can be played here in Pennsylvania!
"He also said "what this commercial does is undercuts that main claim to fame for him, it muddies that water more than anything else, we're talking about events more than 35 years old." "
That's the idea - his claim to fame is NOT legitimate. Doubt needs to be there.
"Republican senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war called the ad "dishonest" and "dishonorable."
Would you expect less from McCain. Kerry and McCain are buddies and he also identifies with much of Kerry's philosophy. McCain is really a liberal in drag.
"McCain also called on the White House to condemn the ad as well. The White House has declined. "
GOOD!
"UT political science professor David Davis, who's a Vietnam veteran, considers the ad unethical."
Bet if it was about Bush, you couldn't keep his mouth shut. "Unethical" - yes, that this sleaze Kerry was given medals of honor for serving FOUR MONTHS and lied to get them. The ad is not "unethical". Sometimes truth is ugly but in this situation not "unethical". It is KERRY who is "unethical".
A buddy of mine sent me an e-mail he sent in about this:
Show the Swift Boat Ad
Kerry has something to hide, or else he'd release his records. You all went after Ryan in the press, but not Kerry. You all went after others' finances, but not Kerry. You all went after Condi Rice and Rumsfeld, but not Berger. Are you independent or state run media?
I believe the Swift Boat Vets. They were there. You weren't. No one I have ever met served 4 months, filmed his exploits, and never had a disability the rest of his life to show for it. Something doesn't smell right here and it's not the garbage.
I have been scanning the news reports today and those media outlets that have reported that they are pulling the Swift Boat Vet ad got a protest email from me. The media outlets in MY area (Chicago) have run the Swift Boat Vet ad, got a "thank you" email!
I think you should go on the Howie Carr show if you have something bad on Kerry. Please do not hide anything. If Kerry lied he must be exposed.
Looks like they hit a nerve...
Kerry cannot be trusted. He is a liar as are most of his DNC colleagues.
Sent 3 Emails to 3 different TV stations this week.
WTVG - when I heard they would not show swiftvets.com ad. So
I slammed them and now they are going to run it.
WCVB - Boston, their news promos were like Kerry ads.
WHDH - Boston, smae with their news promos. They had quotes from Andy Hiller about kerry hitting a home run with his speach.
In the case of the Boston TV stations, I threatened them with FEC and FCC complaints. Ads are no longer running.
But like I say, I'm sure it wasn't just me, but it still feels good.
It was a pleasure to do my duty for my country.
After receiving a Purple Heart for the March 13 scratch and bruise, Kerry sought an early pass out of combat duty, invoking the informal Navy "instruction" known as 1300.39. According to the Boston Globe, 1300.39 meant an officer could request a reassignment from his superior officer after receiving three Purple Hearts. The instruction states that, rather than being automatic, the reassignment would "be determined after consideration of his physical classification for duty and on an individual basis." Of the 138 servicemen and officers in Kerry's unit who received Purple Hearts during the time he was there, records indicate only two received more than two. These were Lt.(jg) Jim Galvin and a boatswain's mate named Stevens. When Insight reached Galvin he said all three of his Purple Hearts were the result of shrapnel or glass shards. Such minor injuries were common on PCF boats with their glass windows and thin metal hulls, and, like Kerry's, Galvin's injuries were not serious enough to take him out of combat for more than a few days. Unlike Kerry, Galvin elected to stay with his men. Indeed, though a professional Navy officer, he never had heard of instruction 1300.39. It was not until early April of 1969, when Galvin noticed that Kerry was preparing to leave the officers' barracks at An Thoi that he learned about "three Purple Hearts and you're out." According to Galvin, it was Kerry who told him, "There's a rule that gets you out of here and I'm getting out. You ought to do the same." Galvin remembers, "He seemed to take care of everything pretty quickly," because that was the last time Galvin saw Kerry in Vietnam. The three-times wounded Galvin stayed with his men, transferred to Cam Ranh Bay to get them a respite from the dicey Mekong Delta, and eventually left the swiftboats for destroyer school. Insight: contacted many men who served in Coastal Division at the same time Kerry did to ask if any of them had heard of anyone leaving the combat zone by invoking three minor wounds. Of the 12 who replied, none had heard of anyone doing so but John Kerry." Less than a month after having claimed three wounds for which he lost no more than a total of two days of duty, Kerry reported as an aide to a navy yard admiral in Brooklyn, New York, leaving his crew in Vietnam. Two years later, preparing for a congressional race in a left-wing Massachusetts district - where the seat eventually was won by the even more radical Rev. Robert Drinan - Kerry was working with Maoists and other radicals in Vietnam Veterans Against the War, saying of those he left behind who were being killed and wounded for real that they were committing crimes "on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels." |
JOHN KERRY'S FORMER COMMANDING OFFICER ADMITS TO "KEVIN MCCULLOUGH SHOW" TODAY THAT HE ASKED KERRY TO LEAVE FOLLOWING THE ISSUANCE OF THIRD PURPLE HEART. ~5:40pm~ EST HEAR THE ACTUAL AUDIO: Lt. Thomas Wright admitted to me on the air today several exclusive and revealing looks at the Vietnam service of John Kerry. Wright's first claim was that as his former commanding offcier, Wright frequently had to confront Kerry over willful disobedience to orders aboard Swift Boat patrols. On frequent occasions Wright stated that Kerry would randomly fire at "things he thought were moving" along the shoreline. Wright stated that the protocol was only to fire when the unit was receiving hostile fire. Wright explained that part of the Swift Boat patrol's goal was to develop contacts with non-combatants living along the rivers being patrolled. Wright pointed out that firing on the people you were meant to develop contacts with generally worked against the goals. Wright also points out that when confronted about his defiance of patrol rules, Kerry would make claims of not hearing the orders, knowing the protocols or "thinking that he saw something". Wright's boldest claim was that after Kerry had in fact received his third purple heart, Wright along with two other ranking officers basically flat out asked Kerry to leave Vietnam. The reason being his behavior continually put the group in greater vulnerability and danger. According to Wright, Kerry claimed he would not leave, "but was out of there by morning."
