WASHINGTON (AP) Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service ''dishonest and dishonorable'' and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well.
''It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me,'' McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press, referring to his bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush.

We need 3 Johns now in that picture: John Kerri, John Edweirds, and John McAinal.
"Actually, I think that McCain is speaking up because McCain has always been afraid that opponents would dredge up his cooperation with the Viet Cong while he was incarcerated at the Hanoi Hilton. As a matter of fact, I saw McCain on FOX in December of last year, claim that the post service actions of Kerry had been used to taunt him while he was a POW. Then a few months later, they were best friends again. My guess is that the Kerry campaign threatened to respond in kind if McCain kept it up."
Very well could be. JFKerry and McCain are playing with "fire" on this one.
This isn't the WH's battle. This isn't ours.
Kerry has made his service an issue. He has given a false impression of support. He has amplified his record. He BETRAYED the Vietnam VETS when he returned home!
They have a RIGHT to address the Senator. They have a right to defend their honor and question his, if they have evidence that disputes his "heroism" claim.
I support their efforts. I'll defend them. Though not in relation to G.W.'s campaign. The two are not linked in the manner the press/dems will suggest.
The W.H., imo, should simply respond this isn't "their" battle. True enough. It isn't.
I don't about any ads, but there has been plenty of background, "Chatter" (some of it, I've heard personally from folks I trust alot), about his behavior as a POW. If you'll look upthread a bit, you'll see some of that sort of thing.
I have to second that idea!
Hi I'm Mike Moore, I can get away with anything and guess what, Senator McCain loves my work!
McCain, "I'll cover for you boys!"
Boy, you hit that one right on the head. These are guys who served w/Kerry. They know what they are talking about and last time I looked, they still had the right to speak and didn't need McCain's permission to do so.
Everytime I'm willing to give McCain a pass because of his POW experience, I end up wanting to send him to the Dims.
"My name is Steve Gardner. I served in 1966 and 1967 on my first tour of duty in Vietnam on Swift boats, and I did my second tour in '68 and '69, involved with John Kerry in the last 2 1/2 months of my tour. The John Kerry that I know is not the John Kerry that everybody else is portraying. I served alongside him and behind him, five feet away from him in a gun tub, and watched as he made indecisive moves with our boat, put our boats in jeopardy, put our crews in jeopardy... if a man like that can't handle that 6-man crew boat, how can you expect him to be our Commander-in-Chief?"

Searching through that web site, you will find 250 men who served on Swift boats, including the entire chain of command above Lt. Kerry, agree with Steven Gardner that Kerry is not fit to be Commander-in-Chief. That compares to the 13 crew members who support his candidacy.
McCain just gave the sSwiftvets great publicity and the networks have to cover them now.
BIBGO! You've got it....McCain better sit back and listen before he says another word. He's playing a losing card.
a loose cannon
Name a nationally known Democrat misfit that was "purged" in the last 25 years or so. Folks who saw the light, or at least felt the heat, and switched parties do not count.
"John Kerry IS making his Vietnam service the cornerstone for his campaign."
Touche....
My father retired from the Navy as a Vice-Admiral. He absolutely despised John Kerry. Admiral Elmo Zumwalt similarly had nothing but disdain for Kerry also. Zumwalt's youngest son, Jimmy (I went to high school with him so I refer to him as "Jimmy") has come out against Kerry and recounted his father's opinion of him.
I remember quite vividly Kerry's statements condemning those who served honorably and have resented his lies for all these years.
Can all these folks who are speaking and have spoken out against Kerry be wrong? Hell no.
* Rush HAS to be following this thread. He's saying almost the same exact stuff.....
Relax, this does not hurt Bush. It doesn't help Bush, but it hurts Kerry with vets and their families/friends -- and totally takes him off-message.
I'd just like to take a moment to thank Rush for rising in defense of these veterans. Knew I could count on him.
These men, and men like them, were abused 30 years ago by the same groups trying to tarnish them today. They deserve a solid defense from us this time around.
(I loathe McCain and always have so don't take this post as defending that ass)
Rush just agreed with you about " McCain apparently believes the only Vietnam Veterans that should be allowed to speak are himself and Kerry. "
He doesn't have to, he'll just "tweak" CFR a bit to outlaw even more of it.
