Principled conservative, huh?\

He has the right to be wrong. He was wrong in his comment about Federalism. Now he can make it right. Were you hoping that undercover democrat BArthwell would get chosen?

I hope he does the "mosh pit" act again at one of his rallies.

Hillary inflicted herself onto New York. Her idea. Keyes has been called to run because they need him. There is a difference between carpetbagging and being drafted.

The voters of Illinois decide in November if Keyes represents them or not. If you don't want him, vote for Obama.

In the meantime, I suggest we all pull together to do what we can to save this seat from the Democrats! It's a long shot, but worth a try! GO KEYES !

No Way!

Someone in the GOP with the stones to run a real conservative? Now we've got to insure that Keyes wins!

Will he do the same in Illinois? Or has he learned his lesson?

He will not. He didn't in '96 or '00. As a nationally-known and sought speaker, he no longer needs to.

If I make a contribution to a candidate, I don't expect him to take the money to pay his electric bill.

Just food for thought...That expectation all but guarantees a 90% incumbency retention rate. Incumbents get paid to campaign out of our tax dollars, while challengers most often (especially if they are in government or media, as Keyes was) quit their jobs in order to run. Under your guidelines, only the self employed and/or independently wealthy can run.

However, as I said, 2004 will not be like 1992.

Personally, I would liked to have seen Alan Keyes in the White House already.

Everytime that man speaks I love it. He so resonates with me.

I have not seen him in every instance of public speaking, but what I have seen of him, I like.

You go Alan!

Carpetbagger!

But it's a great move. All he has to do to defend himself is list the defenses of hillary that were used by the press.

Would they be calling him a "carpetbagger" now? GGGreat!

Sorry, I don't think it's great. The state and national parties drove away several decent candidates by refusing to commit money and resources to the race. So now we have an out-of-state candidate, funded by out-of-state money, who, by the way, is likely to lose badly.

I think Keys has a shot.

I have gone to see him speak. And he lays evidence down very well when making a point.

Obama will play race card as he already has....and it won't play well with Keys being the opponent.
Then there is Keys' experience. In these trying "global" times, that helps.

He was wrong in his comment about Federalism.

Keyes is flip-flopping? This mighty man of principle has become a mere political expedient?

The horror!!

I like Keyes and would vote for him in an instant. There's just one small problem. I live in Madison, WI, a fairly liberal town. People here don't see Alan Keyes as just another Republican. They see him as, how do you say?, crazy, wacked out, out of his gourd, just plain nuts.

The problem is Illinois is a state that is considered just left of center. People are not going to be persuaded to vote for him when most see him as nuts.

Another problem is the existance of years of recordings from his conservative radio talk show. I'm sure there are many things he said on his show, that he would not say when running for office in Illinois as a politician. Although I am aware that Keyes like to speak his mind even when running for office. I fondly remember a moment in the 2000 debates when he called for repealing the 14th amendment.

I also remember how much Hitlery was chastized for being a carpetbagger when she ran in NY. Are we prepared to take the same flak when Keyes runs in IL?

I hope he wins. If I lived in IL, I would vote for him for sure. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

I'll get to vote for him...the debates will be interesting but I don't think he has much of a chance this late in the game...Keys can win central Il all the way down south, but north...hmmm?

We all bitched and moaned when Hillary, who did not live and had never lived in New York. She was from Arkansas.. Some called her a carpetbagger...and worse!

As far as I know, Dr. Keyes does not live, and never lived in Illinois. So what gives....I guess residency rules are out the window? and anybody can run anywhere they are needed. Krap...as much as I admire and respect Dr. Keyes, I don't think I like him running in Illinois any more than I liked Hillary running in New York.

Maybe I am wrong about this...as I frequently am about other things....but just damn!

Somebody please explain how Alan Keyes gets to run for the Senate from Illinois when he lives somewhere around D.C.????
