Watching John Kerry give his acceptance speech, I was reminded of Richard Nixon. Kerry not only said he would make short shrift of an annoying war - but he also appeared shifty and sweaty, jowly and sallow, bobbing and weaving in front of the camera and "racing furiously," as the Washington Post's Tom Shales put it, through his text, as though he wanted to get finished in time to get to Locke-Ober's for supper. No wonder there was barely a bounce.
On the other hand, maybe I don't know what I am talking about. The headline on a Salon.com article reviewing the speech said, "The pundits on Kerry: He nailed it." Oh, well. Instant political analysis is not my strong suit. I am sick of it - of the talk about who'll win West Virginia, the hair-splitting polling, the speculation over whether a terror attack will help George Bush. This is short-termism. It misses the forest for the trees.

A very disturbing thing has been occurring in modern American leadership in all three branches of government, probably most strongly since the Clinton/Bush presidential contest in '92. The leftist candidates and office-holders no longer want the voting public to know and comprehend their ideology because it is obscene. They cloak it in glib, altruistic rhetoric that bears no resemblance to the truth. They have elevated lying about their leadership intentions, and the purposeful character destruction of their opponents, and their opponents' programs and beliefs, to a malevolent art form.
Excellent analysis.
Have a good vacation.
It was this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1183898/posts
"the libs are going to get dangerous, perhaps violently so. It will go from amusing to disturbing."
Agreed. It is actually disturbing now that the left has totally abandoned even the semblance of truth in their campaign against America.
They have gone from traditional spin and puffery to outright malignant lying, and do not even attempt to pretend otherwise. This is a new and disturbing development,
as it strikes at the heart of our democratic system, which is based on an informed electorate.
To see what happens to an ignorant, benighted and misled electorate, look at how well American blacks have fared by voting against their own self-interest for decades.
Wait a second.
Are you saying you don't care that John Kerry singlehandedly won the war for us in Viet Nam (and only occasionally slaughtered unarmed grandmothers).
Do you have no compassion for the single mothers in this country who are sometimes forced to work on Saturdays to help make ends meet?
What is it about John Kerry's simple message "We can do better! Help is on the way! Send me!" that you find vauge or misleading?
Even if none of them die, by 2008 they will be outnumbered by the eligible voters of Gen-X and Gen-Y who are trending more conservative. Boomer liberals are gasping their last political breath in 2004, and you can tell it from their desperation.
Personally, I hope the Boomer liberals live another hundred years as a political minority, with all their gimme-gimme's voted out of existence, watching oil rigs and factories constructed and operated on their most sacred beaches and parks, and the timber from their sacred old-growth national forests turned into lumber, firewood and paper, and their sacred ski slopes gouged open for coal, iron, and other minerals.
I'd like them to see their golf courses plowed under and replaced with cabbage or corn, or factories, or truck stops.
I'd like them to see the halls of academia purged of all the leftists and all the grant-funded activities that have done nothing but promote the Democrat party. Let them watch as their liberal agencies are disbanded and the non-profit NGO's are outlawed and their assets recovered and returned to the national and state treasuries from whence they were stolen.
Nothing personal ...
No, I write Reagan babies in the interest of accuracy. The term "Reagan Generation" is misleading and tries to ride the "Greatest Generation" wagon. The big difference is that the GG earned the title through action. The Reagan babies had absolutely zero input in bringing RWR to office, they just happened to be born just prior to or during his tenure.

I'm at work right now paying for your SS....
Whine a little louder please....I'll wager that I've already put more into SS than you ever will (maxed out every year for the past 15, by April). And, not one boomer aged person is receiving SS retirement benefits so where is your money really going?
As for your statistical analysis, what are the real numbers? If the "boomer" group is significantly larger than the Reagan babies in terms of real numbers then how many actual votes will be counted from each group, and which group is more likely to vote in the first place. Stats (from a poll!) can be twisted to fit nearly any argument, even one from a one trick pony.
Back out of the closet I see.
Oh, I almost forgot. When you take away their last recourse by using a spell-checker, these morons typically resort to calling you gay. Predictable and sad.
I know a place where he can go..........
Virtually every reliable study shows partisan identification is even in this country... and there are twice as many self-identified conservatives as liberals. Why do the media then, insist upon loading their polls with Democrats? What's the point? The country has changed so much that you have a Democrat running as a faux Reagan. If it were really the 50-50 Nation beloved of the media pundits, John F*ckin' should be running as a true blue liberal. He isn't. The times have changed.
Well, interesting comment. You could say that what Lincoln did was to "force" the South to act on their principles of slavery, which was the only way of getting rid of the institution.
I don't remember Bowles ever having such a commanding lead over Dole. Dole was a household name, deep NC roots, etc. Don't get me wrong, I really hope that Burr wins this race, but the dark clouds are really beginning to loom in this race. I don't have a good feeling about it.
BTW--The whole IL thing is really getting scary. I wish that the ILGOP would get their acts together...but honestly, the WAGOP is not much better.
..."these morons typically resort to calling you gay..."?
My reference was to your recent suspension, not my fault if you see it as something else.
Was a good read
Here is what the rats are really about...
The core of the democrat party
The democrat convention in Boston was nothing but an exercise in putting a new dress on an old whore. The convention planners had to hide all their extremists from public view. WE DID NOT SEE:
· the hateful gays and lesbians, who in addition to their nights of sinful debauchery, covet our most precious our children;
· the violent Marxists that hate freedom and individual wealth, yet want to run the country;
· the hateful atheists and Christian-haters who hate Christians and "tradition-only" Jews who hate truly spiritual Jews;
· the educationalists hate parents who would raise children with ethics and morals, who design the perverse curricula designed to indoctrinate our children with hate-America and free-sex ideas;
· the vile and hateful abortionists rejoicing as they kill baby after baby and strive to silence the pro-lifers;
· the hateful feminists whose contempt of men knows no limits;
· the union thugs who shake down corporations and beat up those that just want to work;
· the zombie-like bureaucrats (some dedicated ones excepted) who run the legions of non-performing, paper-shuffling goobermint employees (military excepted) who vote democrat just because a republican president might actually expect them to work;
· the bitter socialists who want to sap the productivity of the producers and capitalists by penalizing profits;
· the intellectual elite who hate everything that America stands for, and prattle on and on as to the evils of our society, but, havent the capacity to think their way out of a paper bag, let alone be productive members of the American economy. According to them, government control of our lives is good, but individuals choosing their own path and having success is bad.
· the hateful racial "dividers" who blame the evil white man for all their cultural problems, and demand more and more of the your hard labors as compensation;
· the open-border racists who invite floods of illegals into this country and then encourage them to sign up for all the freebees;
· the gun-haters who hate the that honest Americans might have a gun in their home, or worse yet, that some of them have license to carry it under their coats
· the greedy (but not so hateful) society-dependent families and individuals who take advantage of every hand-out program in America and vote only for those who promise more goodies for them;
· the confused (but not so hateful,) suburban soccer moms who really have no clue, except that they want abortion to remain unrestricted, and think their most important purpose in this world is to have tea with their towns Superintendent of Schools so their kids get the best teachers.
WE DID NOT SEE THE TRUE FACE OF DEMOCRATS at the Boston convention but they were there nonetheless. These hateful people had to sit on their hands and keep their mouths shut; allowed only to clap their hands, flash big smiles and cheer their leaders lies. They looked just like you and me at the convention, but they were impossible to spot. But, they were there as certain as the sun rises in the east!
Being democrat is synonymous with being dishonest. Except for their core voting base, the only way the democrats can convince people to vote for them is to pretend they are normal people. You can dress them up, but you cant change whats inside theyre rotten to the core.
Now that the convention is over, theyve dispersed throughout the country to work their destruction. It is no doubt that someone of Kerrys poor character is the candidate of the democrats.
Your Senate analysis is too pessimistic.
We will pick up all 5 southern seats - FL, GA, NC, SC, and LA.
We will hold CO, AK, and OK.
We will lose IL.
We will gain either the SD seat or the WA seat, unlikely both. Not giving up on WI, either - Feingold could lose.
Still net +4 or more = 55-44-1
Illinois is not lost, Keyes is toying with running for Senator from Illinois. I have not given up on Illinois, if Bush makes some effort, Keyes is in.
Left-brain overload. It undid both Dukakis and Jack Kemp when they got lost in details. People stop paying attention. A speech is not a dissertation for the Kennedy School of Government. Americans like right-brained intuitives like Reagan. They get to the point.
Liberals, particularly smarmy Ivy Leaguge liberals, like to try to impress everyone with how smart they are. But they are usually wrong on the details as well which makes things even more absurd.
