Flextime and electronic commuting are good for traffic and the environment. Good for swing voters.

I just realized what it is about Bush. Most politicians speak in long filibuster-style sentences. Bush doesn't. He speaks in bite sized thoughts. It sounds terse. It's why the call him simple. He is simple. To the point. Doesn't waste words. Says what he means. Means what he says. Does what he says he'll do. Gotta love it. God Bless. Out.

Mark Twain said "They have no summer. They have no winter. They have no morals. Other than that it's a perfectly nice country."

I had always thought there was no real reason for the centuries of British-French antagonism since the hundred years war. Now I'm understanding that the french have never been quite civilized despite their pretentiousness.

The thing I've been wondering lately about the french is this: Were they occupied by the Germans in WWII? Or were they allies?

CA: mainly because my wife is within 4 years of full retirement. If we leave now, she has to retire early and not draw any benefits for 4 years. Plus, she will lose other things that she is working for. Yes, I am suffering this crap, but I can hardly ask her to give up 33 years worth of work and sweat to climb the latter she has done. She started with Bank of America as a teller in a branch. She is now an assistant vice president and in charge of her own section and has been for 15 years. She is pumping tons of her payday into her 401k plan, plus the bank matching how ever they do it some funds, and the bank pension plan. At retirement all that can be rolled together and she is going to have a very nice nest egg indeed. She has worked for it, and I cannot take her from it. She would leave in a minute if I said I wanted to go right now, but I cannot in good conscience do that to her. So, I drag on. But, on her advice, I have been sending out some resumes to places in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana to see if anything sticks.

I hope that the RNC does exactly the opposite of presenting Bush at the convention. Can you imagine a darkened convention hall, someone asking for silence, the audience expecting whoever is designated to introduce GW, and as the lights slowly go up, GW appears on the stage alone and says, "I'm George Bush and I approve this message."

Wow! What a terrific idea!

Hmm! Good question.

I am reading The French Betrayal of America by Kenneth Timmerman now and the Chirac, et al story of corruption is disgusting.

I'll be shopping and I don't usually BUY clothes. But I need a new pair of running shoes, and it's a good time to get them. Plus some coolmax runners singlets, no tax on them either.

And we shouldn't miss an opportunity to remind the rest of the world: No State Income Tax in Texas. That would spark a revolution too. The third rail of Texas politics. Plenty of libs have tried.

And yet they remain so snotty and arrogant. And they smell bad.

Maybe they could give the unreleased balloons to those homeless in the street they talked about.

...and that lengthy fireworks display--the air pollution was astounding!

a concept called "Tax Holidays". Right before back to school, for one weekend, all of the stores that sell clothing, footwear, whatever sorts of things one would use for school, sell their products without any sales tax.

We have that here in Florida--for a whole week! Meanwhile, from August 1-31, we have an $.08 per gallon gasoline tax break.

fireworks....not to mention expensive along with pollution. A few fireworks would have been fine but these went on and on and on. The reason I poke sticks at it is a result of their blaming Bush for the homeless, the uninsured, etc. like like none of this existed before 2000. This was an unnecessary exorbitant display of something that disintegrated into the wind.....much like his speech. If they really meant that they gave a dam about the homeless, etc. - whoever paid for the extravagant display could have made a big media deal of donating the $$ for charity instead as a symbol of what a Kerry administration would do. But as usual, the dem party is all flash,
PS: Just call me being petty :o)

Were they occupied by the Germans in WWII? Or were they allies?

It is quite interesting. In WWI the French set up defenses along the French German border. The Germans attacked through Belgium and had major victories.

So the French being French built the huge defensive fortress called the Maginot line all along the French and German Borders shortly after World War One. No German army could have taken the Maginot line in a frontal attack. So the Germans again attacked though Belgium and took the Maginot line from the rear.

It was just a few short weeks until the French surrendered. Churchill offered the French joint citizenship if they would not surrender. But the French could not resist surrendering to the Germans.

From that time on much of the French nation became allied with the Germans.

The French held north Africa in 1943. When we tried to land in French held territory in North Africa the French fired on our troops.. The French killed about 1,500 Americans.

The French really did not get on our side until it was certain that Hitler would be defeated.

There was an underground resistance to the Germans, but is was a minority. But the German toops found mostly a warm welcome in Vichy France during world war II.

When we had taken most of France back in December of 1944, guess what Patton predicted Hitler would do... He predicted and planned for an attack on our troops by coming through Belgium. No one on our side believed Patton. But the the Germans did exactly that .. we called it the battle of the Buldge.

Napoleon Bonapart was the last good French commander. Since then they have been mostly surrender monkeys.

I will reorganize the Cheney Chicks. Back in 2000 I wasn't smart enough to have a ping list for that thread. I will get it up and running this evening, and I will ping you to it first thing!

I have read that the DNC collected $103 million in donations for the convention - no ceiling and all deductible - no wonder they had millions of signs, 100,000 balloons, and other extreme extravagances.

It is not possible to separate politicians from money, no matter what John McCain imagined he could do.

Will do! I don't have a digital camera, I'm hoping my sister and brother in law do. If not, I may stop and get one of those disposable ones.

So far no response of any other FReepers going to see him in Cambridge. Most are going to the Canton appearance.

I may be doing a one woman FReep here if I run into any protesters....LOL

I was on a rant.
I fully expect the Republican Convention to have balloons (that actually drop*g*), and all the other bells and whistles. It's just that the Demos present themselves as the party for the poor, the disadvantaged, the trod upon....and then they put on a high $$$ show reminiscent of the French royalty just before the revolution. Hypocritical....but that's not news, is it?
awww geeze I'm ranting again.

Having worked many years in personnel, I don't often talk so strongly to people. But .. sometimes people need to be challenged a little bit. I can see your circumstances are different and I agree that throwing away a whole career for 4 years would not be a good thing.

However, when Bush wins re-election in a landslide .. it might quiet the libs in your office and make the next few years much more bearable.

You said: "If you read all my posts on Bush's speech making"

That's a pretty defensive statement. That doesn't sound like you're agreeing with me.

But .. quite frankly .. I don't require anyone to agree with me. You can have your own point of view. It's no skin off my nose.
