As many as 60 per cent of the United States' top science students and 65 per cent of those who excelled in mathematics are children of immigrants, a new study has found.
Foreign-born high school students make up 50 per cent of the 2004 US Math Olympiad top scorers, 38 per cent of the US Physics Team and 25 per cent of Intel Science Talent Search finalists, America's most prestigious awards for young scientists and mathematicians, the study said.

"These findings provide evidence that maintaining an open policy toward skilled professionals, international students, and legal immigration is vital to America's technological and scientific standing in the world," Stuart Anderson, Executive Director of NFAP and author of the report, said.
"If opponents of immigration had succeeded over the past 20 years, two-thirds of the most outstanding future American scientists and mathematicians would not be here today because US policy would have barred their parents from entering the United States," said Anderson. --------------------------------------------------------

I guess I'll have to answer my own question..
The only 'opponents' of immigration that I am aware of are opponents of 'ILLEGAL' immigration.
I am not aware of a group or peoples that are have a blanket agenda against ANY immigration.
Just the 'illegal' kind.
And BTW!
We are ALL 'children of immigrants'.

How so? These kids are suceeding in American schools.
There are many opponents of legal immigration. The vast majority of Americans want to see legal immigration reduced to a trickle.
I'll name one prominent opponent of legal immigration, Pat Buchanan, hero of the anti-war crowd.
Well there are people who are allowed to immigrate to the US who never should have been allowed in the US under any circumstances. As far as I'm concerned Wahabbi Muslims need not apply for immigrant visas.
Why? Anglo-Saxons are given the same, if not more opportunity than these kids. Perhaps there is a need for an Anglo-Saxon Bill Cosby...
All we need is a flood of doomers on this thread that claim "I will never send my son/daughter" to the school of their choice, because there is no "future" in the degree he/she seeks to pursue.

Putting aside the fuzzy math assumptions, who are these "opponents" of "immigration?"
This just shows why we gotta keep immigrants coming. As long as the brain drain comes to the US we are in good hands! It means we have the best oppourtunities here.

Pat Buchanan and Michael Savage are two prime examples. Surely you do not deny that there is anti-immigrant sentiment among some in the US.
Fuzzy math? Poll after poll finds that over 60% of Americans want to see immigration reduced. When asked what level they would prefer, most want a trickle of under 100,000.
I'm not opposed to immigration, but the US should pick and choose. I can't think of any good reason why Arab Muslims should be allowed to immigrate to the US. I don't see why we need large numbers of unskilled immigrants from any country.
There is all the difference in the world between legal and illegal immigration. It sure as heck ain't the 15M+ illegal Mexicans dominating math scores.
I'm all for very liberal legal immigration policies: If you have a college degree, or the money to start your own business, or buy property here, by all means come on in!
If you are here to squeeze out a baby and get on the welfare gravy train... that's something completely different.
I don't listen to Savage very much, but I have never ever heard him even hint that legal immigration was a bad thing. Pat is surely a nativist, but I have never heard him suggest that legal immigration is the problem.
Whenever some twit uses that line on me I remind them of the Bering crossing. But then again, I'm evil.
THAT is the key.
Even a little bit of selectivity makes immigration - LEGAL immigration - a huge win for the U.S.
