"Alaska Ponders Trend-Setting Pot Initiative!!"

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The last frontier just may become the first state in the nation to legalize marijuana completely. Backers of a controversial ballot initiative want pot to be treated just like alcohol. If voters pass the measure, it would be legal to grow, smoke and sell any amount of marijuana so long as one is 21 years of age. The state would regulate the cannabis industry just like it licenses booze and cigarettes. "Alaskans are independent and I think Alaskans believe people should have the maximum freedom of choice," said Ken Jacobus, a pro-marijuana attorney. "Adults can choose cigarettes, they can choose alcohol."

Peace out, Alaska...MUD

Just thought I would post about Senator Allen's town hall meeting last night. I didn't see anybody from FR - no one that I recognized anyway.

I have never been to anything like that and I thought it was great. Sen. Allen took a lot of questions - none were scripted that I could tell. Lots of questions on homeland security - different aspects from border protection to identity theft to troop redeployment to attacks on our soil to strengthening the military. One question on health savings accounts. None on taxes - I wanted to ask one on fixing the alternative minimum tax mess but didn't get to. One question on the "increasing numbers of people without health insurance (from someone who works at Cross Over Health) and one question on having a federal law requiring local law enforcement have citizen review panels (he pretty much said forgeddaboutit to that one).

At the beginning, he introduced all the general assembly folks and Henrico county supervisors who were there. I started the applause for Janis. Reid was sitting three seats over from me. I shoulda freeped him. Or at least given him a piece of my mind. Oh well, maybe another time.

He spent a couple of minutes at the beginning talking about his priorities - which as we all know from his time as governor includes lowering taxes, reducing regulatory burdens, as well as strengthening the military.

An old friend of mine works for Sen. Allen so I got to meet him afterwards. He really comes across as a super nice person who is very well informed on our founding history and conservative (Jeffersonian) principles. There are times I wish he were still governor.

Well, I'm off to the beach next week. Ya'll have fun while I'm gone. Unlike Corin, I will NOT be taking a computer with me. I shall be a beach bum - catch some rays, enjoy the ocean, read trashy fiction and eat entirely too much.
