Israeli Orthodox Jews blow trumpets as part of a protest against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites)'s Gaza disengagement plan, at the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, in Jerusalem's Old City, Sunday July 25, 2004. From Gaza to Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Israelis linked hands Sunday in a human chain in a protest against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan to dismantle the Jewish settlements and withdraw the army from the Gaza Strip
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) walks through his Jerusalem offices. Tens of thousands of Israelis were forming a human chain in a mass show of strength against the government's plans to pull all Jewish settlers and troops out of the Gaza Strip
An injured Israeli soldier walks during a military operation in Qalandia refugee camp near West Bank city of Ramallah July 25, 2004. Israeli troops stormed a West Bank refugee camp on Sunday, opening fire towards hundreds of Palestinian youths who pelted them with stones, Palestinian witnesses said.

We could really get the ACLU upset by making a cross with coming up from Tx to ND.

CG, you don't know how many times I've wanted to do this. I think it can be done. Start by getting a small group committed in each state involved across the USA. Get out the word that you will have people stationed at so many mile intervals and ask people to come and fill in the gaps. That much prep will get you enough publicity out there so that the people will turn out to fill those gaps. I'm in for WV.

Spend your time getting the 'fence sitters to vote'! That will put the chains on the liberals.

Just think of the psychological impact this would have on people. I think it might be a more effective way to get people to register. BTW, I've already gotten people to register.

What was the route for that human chain? I was thinking about Route 40 and how we'd need a lot of people in RVs to hang out in the Mohave desert.

OUTSTANDING! Yes, it would show a sign of unity. HOWEVER 40 some % are actually going to vote for this brain dead guy Kerry. Given the facts about who he is people still believe he is the guy to lead. THAT IS TERRIFYING, how can so many people be that misinformed? The answer is the SOCILIAST MEDIA. Wherever you go for information the medias' story is the same. If you read one article you have read them all. This is such an organized, scripted and orchestrated mis-information campaign you have to ask WHO IS PULLING THE STRINGS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN? I believe we are up against something very evil. Imagine if they had a charismatic type of person on the ticket. This is the worst candidate the DemaRrats have had in years. He couldn't arouse a group of Sr. citizens at a free lunch let alone anyone with a half a brain (Srs still think Roosevelt can save them. They think the Dems are for the working-man and the Republicans are for the rich and big business.) AND HE STILL HAS 40+%!!.

I think it's a splendid idea! I'm in Louisiana, so how could we link it in the southern states?

Only if we can use it to close the freaking border!

The key to this success is in the details.
When we did this in 1986, we bought a charity ticket. On that ticket was a street location. We traveled into the valley to our designated spot and waited for the moment.
Coordination of each city along the path could start with the county chair who in turn coordinates with next county and the next and so on right up to the doors of the convention in New York!
Because it has never been done for a President, the impact would be biggest thing to ever hit politics! And think of what it would do to the moral of our troops and the memory of President Reagan!
What effect would it have on the fence sitter? Up and front real people, real values, real support all for a REAL president!

It would be good to be able to talk to someone who was on the organization for the hands across America for help in planning.

I can just see the "Gay" activists now, inspired by your idea and taking it one step further - "A Human Train! A Human Train! Let's make a Human Train for Kerry!"

I remember being in Hands Across America in Illinois. Great fun.
I found this info about it: "The event was conceived and organized by Ken Kragen. A theme song titled Hands Across America was played simultaneously on hundreds of radio stations at 3:00 Eastern time (noon Pacific time) to add to the festive atmosphere of the event."

A Bush-Cheney human chain...
That'd be about 6 feet long... Not too impressive.
Can other Republicans join in, or would the Secret Service get a little edgy?
One thing I always wondered about human chains: If Dick rubbed a balloon on his head, would George's hair stand up?
