I can call up there, but it's all LD for me. Besides, I believe I may be running on batteries here pretty soon. We're taking a beating.
That's what I thought...we keep our bulbs deep in mulch next to the house, most of them make it through fine.

Honestly if you take an area like Peoria, Joliet even Detroit, you will find large muslim populations in predominantly black areas for they will not be bothered, especially amongst black muslims, always an indicator like here in Chicago

Yes, they need a stratifying, cold, dormant period. Some bulbs are more susceptible to dormancy than others.
When planted and established, they translocate nutrients from the leaves and stalks (green chlorophyll) to the rootmass, for the winter dormancy period. Then, in the spring, that glucose is used to make new stalks and leaves and flowers, as they break dormancy.
You could also store them in an unheated shed in paper bags and peatmoss, and it would probably lessen the mortality of the more temperate-tropical bulbs.
