The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

Australia and Italy have received warnings through a statement purportedly from militants linked to al Qaeda that demanded those countries withdraw troops from Iraq.

Nearly everyone in Europe in on vacation in August. Nobody is "minding the store". Literally.

Manipulating US elections is not an Al-Qaeda goal

The warning by the US Department of Homeland Security that Al-Qaeda may be preparing to disrupt the presidential election has been sounded with little assessment of the terrorist organization's aims.

Some have questioned the extent to which the Bush administration may be using such warnings for political reasons, but few have challenged the notion that Al-Qaeda seeks to replicate its Madrid attack on the eve of the Spanish election for the presumed goal of defeating President George W. Bush.

In fact, while Al-Qaeda is constantly trying to prepare massive acts of horror on US soil, replacing the Bush administration is not likely to be one of its objectives. Broadly, there are two possible goals for Al-Qaeda as an organization. (snipped)

Karzai postpones visit to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on Sunday postponed his official visit to Pakistan. It was scheduled to begin on Monday.

President Hamid Karzai called President Pervez Musharraf on Sunday to request a delay Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said in a brief press statement. The statement said the next dates for President Karzai's visit would be worked out through diplomatic channels shortly. Both Mr Karzai and President Pervez Musharraf have agreed to reschedule the trip in the near future, Mr Karzai office said in a statement. (snipped)

My folks were in Phil. this last week. My mom said the security around the Liberty Bell and Indep. Hall were unbelieveable. She said they were told, several times, that it was just like airport security. She said that was completely an understatement...or at least way more secure than any airport security she had been through (and they've traveled a lot, including outside of the US, post Sept. 11). She said they never even ended up getting into Indep. Hall that it was taking way too long b/c of security and decided to wait for another day.
