The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Good for you. We have got to spread the word. More FReepers= more input, more knowledge. We need eyes and ears everywhere.

How are beloved Mizzou Tigers looking this year? Any reason to hope? Mr. RR and I both went to school there. (Columbia)

The good news about the today's terror warning is that if the factul basis for the warnings is true, then AQ does not have nuke weapons in place in the CONTUS. Why, you ask? Because we wouldn't be focusing on a specific building(s) when a single nuke could take out 2/3 or more of Manhattan.

Has anyone read the article in the recent issue of Atlantic Monthly about "Al Qaeda's Hard Drive?" It's a story about a journalist who managed to track down a couple of Al Qaeda's computers when they fled from Kabul in the fall of 2001, and what he found on one of them. Very interesting reading.

One thing that made you want to go "hmmmm..." was that he wasn't able to get (most of) the data off one of them before the CIA showed up and wanted to take both of them. (He'd already gotten a copy of the data on the other computer). Supposedly the CIA later returned the computer and said that there was "nothing interesting" on it. But considering that that one was al-Zawahiri's personal computer and what he was able to extract from the other one, that's hard to believe.

Wonder what they were able to find on it?

I attended CMSU in Warrensburg. My brother is a Mizzou grad though and has high hopes for this year. CMSU really didn't have a real contender in many sports. I actually migrated across state line to the Kansas side of the KC area about 20 years ago. My parents and brother's family still on MO side. I really want my brother to give FR a look. He spent the last two years with AG's office in computer crimes division and I'm especially interested in his take on terrorism's use of the internet. I'm afraid he trends a little left of center(he's ten years younger than me and I thought I raised him better than that!).

Very good point.....but I can't help but wonder, "what if"?

I often think about John Edwards speech of last week when he mentioned the "loose nukes in Russia". I wonder what he knows that we don't.

We really need to bring your brother to FreeRepublic. He will become a convert in no time.

I know what you are saying about raising him better than that.
I have a sister (professor at University of Kentucky) who leans left. I tried and tried. Haven't quite given up on her yet. She is 13 years younger than I. You would think she would give her "mother figure" a bit more respect! She spends about 4 weeks a year with me, and I am an unrelenting advocate of conservatism. I'm amazed that she still comes to visit.

I still have hope for her. She finally admitted that Hillary was sucking all the oxygen out of the Dems. LOL!
And she believes Juanita Broderick!

from NY Times:

WASHINGTON — The unannounced capture of a figure from al-Qaida in Pakistan several weeks ago led the CIA to the rich lode of information that prompted the terror alert on Sunday, according to senior U.S. officials.

The figure, Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, was described by a Pakistani intelligence official as a 25-year-old computer engineer, arrested July 13, who had used and helped to operate a secret al-Qaida communications system where information was transferred via coded messages.

We have friends and family who frequently visit Italy. Muslims have been an ever increasing problem over the last eight to ten years.

Most of the Italians that we know have always called them "gypsies", it wasn't until after 9/11 that I realized that they were really talking about Muslims.

These "Muslim gypsies" in Italy are trying to cause the same type of problems that they are causing in France (although IMO France deserves everthing it gets..). They are trying to take-over towns, schools, churches etc. They are nothing but a plague of vermin!!!

I wish I could believe this but it's just tooo pat! A suitcase nuke wouldn't take out 2/3rds of Manhattan and what facts have been found are probably only partial...I'm sure there are several cells in OBL's Manhattan project and some are minor "key" distractions. Think about the "Albanian double cross"

Can you imagine a combo car bomb, bio-chem & airplane attack...and then all the rescue staff arrive from the outer boroughs only to then have a nuke go off in an ambulance or ems vehicle! There are many possible scenerios and I'm sure the authorities are looking at this recent info as part of the puzzle but not the entire puzzle. I hope they canvas the churches well!

When I was watching the press conf. I was amazed that they were so specific and actually named buildings. That had to have been the most specific terror warning they've given.

Good read:(

Comes Death on a Pale Horse
Bob Cheeks
Thursday, July 29, 2004
He walked steadily but not hurriedly. He was neatly dressed in a three-piece Brooks Brothers suit. As he walked he looked directly ahead with a slight smile on his face; no one paid any attention to him. He was everyman; dark-skinned, clean-shaven, with straight black hair neatly combed.
When he reached the front of the largest building in the very center of the busy city, he put his suitcase down and checked his wristwatch. It was 9:54 a.m. His timing was impeccable. He picked up the suitcase and turned toward the street. Traffic was light; most people had already arrived at their jobs and were working. He said his prayers. A few minutes later he placed the suitcase on the sidewalk and slowly bent over and initiated the firing sequence.

“Allah Akbar!” he said, smiling.

Within seconds a huge fireball rose above the city. Already tens of thousands were dead, while buildings blocks away were twisted and ripped open by a wind calculated to approach 700 miles per hour. Within three minutes the dead and wounded would exceed 1 million Americans.

This same scenario was repeated at exactly the same time in six additional American cities. Fortunately, two other bombs failed to detonate. The death toll was over 7 million. America was physically devastated, her economy in shambles. No help came from the United Nations. No European countries sent aid.

The foregoing scenario is fiction, I pray. But if the information provided in Paul L. Williams' new book, "Osama's Revenge: The Next 9/11," is accurate - and keep in mind his book is scrupulously documented and filled with footnotes - America faces a nuclear Armageddon.

We would be better prepared for the “Islamic militants” if we were still a Christian nation. But in the post-Christian era, our embrace of multiculturalism and ethnic diversity work against us. We have, as the brilliant rhetorician Richard Weaver once commented, “lost our consensus.” But Islam has not lost its consensus; it has what Nietzsche referred to as “the Will to Power.”

Williams details Osama bid Laden’s rise to power in Afghanistan and his genius in raising money via heroin sold in the good old USA, which has filled al-Qaida’s coffers to overflowing. If a suitcase bomb in Chechnya costs $20 million, it’s not a problem! In a 2002 article, Al-Majallah, London’s Saudi weekly newspaper, reported that al-Qaida now possesses 48 such devices.

Williams quotes the esteemed terrorist expert Yossef Bodansky, head of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare: “We don’t have any indication that they are going to use it [nuclear weapons] tomorrow or any other day. But they have the capacity; they have the legitimate authorization; they have the logic for using it. So, one does not go into the tremendous amount of expenditures, effort, investment in human beings and in human resources, to have something that will be kept in storage for a rainy day.”

In Europe the fulfillment of Jean Raspail’s prescient book "The Camp of the Saints" is at hand. Williams reports that al-Qaida cells in France gained between 35,000 and 45,000 members; in Germany, 30,000; in Great Britain, 10,000. These volunteers are assigned to terrorist cells that train regularly in “the use of weapons, explosives, and chemical/biological warfare.”

Williams declares that “up to five thousand sleeper agents are already in major U.S. cities ... preparing ‘for the American Hiroshima.’” He also adds a more ominous note: “Although President Bush sounded the alarm about the presence of al Qaeda operatives in the United States, federal officials have displayed almost total incompetence in their ability to identify sleeper agents and root out sleeper cells.”

Even more chilling is Williams' report that in January of 1998 Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of America, “testified before a committee of the US Department of State” that 20 suitcase nukes were already in America, with 5,000 terrorists being trained for the next attack. Kabbani also testified that he believed that Islamic extremists who wish to overthrow the government controlled 80 percent of the mosques in the United States. Remember when we called that treason?!

Williams’ book is a chilling and appropriate reminder that these Islamic terrorists are brilliant, tenacious and totally without mercy. They demand the conversion or death of every American: man, woman and child - and they have no moral qualms about murdering millions of Americans.

In the final analysis, we must consider that Islamic militants have put us in the unhappy position of either destroying a significant portion of that population or risk nuclear annihilation. Let us begin the fight!
