The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

Australia and Italy have received warnings through a statement purportedly from militants linked to al Qaeda that demanded those countries withdraw troops from Iraq.

• U.S. officials said the operatives noted that one of the buildings had three male security guards but that only one carried a weapon. “Getting up to the higher floors is not very difficult if you go there midweek, as I did,” one of the operatives added.

• Authorities also indicated that security would be tightened at other facilities in case secondary targets were selected, including the White House, U.S. Capitol, State Department and U.S. Federal Reserve Board.

• In one example of detailed surveillance cited by a senior administration intelligence official, operatives logged the flow of pedestrians outside one of the targeted buildings at midday in the middle of a week. “Fourteen persons pass by every minute” on one side of the block, they concluded.

• Other communications focused on security barricades, traffic patterns, the use of sewers as escape routes and the locations of nearby fire and police stations, schools and libraries, officials said. For one building, the potential attackers discussed how visitors must sign a book telling where they are going but “on Sunday there is no security. This is not the case on Saturday.”

• The operatives focused on structural features of the targets that might “prevent the buildings from toppling down,” and discussed separate plans to hijack oil tankers but warned that some contain tracking devices.

• They also intensively monitored the employees of the targeted buildings, noting the locations of employee offices in relation to parking garages and identifying local bars and restaurants where employees of the institutions could be met.

  “It’s as if someone long ago broke into your house and now you realize he’s been monitoring everything you did for years,” one senior U.S. official said.

Why would AQ want to bomb IMF and World Bank since they are both international and are not US icons?

You're both right about the go to person concept. Wasn't at nephew's party more than 15 minutes when my brother (attorney and former Assistant Attorney General state of MO) casually asked what "that conservative website you hang around on" thought about today's events! What a hoot. So, I told him. Ended up with quite a crowd on the patio and a great discussion. There is so much info that I had that these people had never heard. Sent them all away with the FR website and TM thread in particular. I suspect there will be a few more lurkers soon.

Certainly. If the ultimate goal is destroying the US, we have to be destroyed economically first. A great way to ensure this is to hit global money institutions as well as American ones. Again, as far as I know, the IMF and World Bank rarely dole out funds without our support.

Your post just reminded me of a strange incident that I recall from ohhhh about thread 3 or 4.

There was a taxi driver who drove two ME's from (I think) California to someplace in the Mid West (maybe Minneapolis). If I recall this happened sometime in the winter or early spring of this year. The ME's supposedly told the taxi driver that they didn't have enough identification, when he asked why they weren't taking an airplane.

No I didn't know about the 6,000 pieces gold. I don't recall any difinitive info. on how she was caught.

According to South African newspapers, Farida Goolam Mohamed Ahmed is South African citizen of Pakistani descent.

A federal law enforcement official told The New York Times the woman, Farida Goolam Mohamed Ahmed, 48, might have been a courier sent to deliver a message or documents to someone in the United States.

She might be the passport connection.

West Nile virus kills second California man

REDLANDS, Calif. (AP) - A 75-year-old man died from the mosquito-borne West Nile virus, becoming California’s second fatality linked to the illness, officials said Sunday.

Morris Sternberg was admitted to a hospital July 18, and died Saturday “as a result of complications from the virus,” San Bernardino County Deputy Coroner Randy Emon said.

Sternberg’s previous medical history was unknown, health officials said.

West Nile has sickened more than 260 people across the nation this year, and resulted in six deaths, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
