The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

I'm thinking trains, planes, and automobiles. Penn Station and Grand Central are such easy targets if only because of the number of people who pass through the stations each day. Also, its easy to drive a car or truck up to the arrival/departure area at JFK/LGA/ERW and let it rip. My gut feeling is that we're going to see a wave of non-nuke, yet devastating attacks by homocide bombers all within a few minutes of each other.

"I mean the multi MEGATON monsters have been aimed at us our entire lives. Now anyone who wants to can build one."

"Life as we know it has changed. There is no more parity. "

Yes, the only good defense here is a good offense and we have a rotten one due to the borders being opened for 3 years post 9/11. I do find some solace in the supposed targeting of both Baltimore and Washington...they wouldn't need to do that with megatons.

Your observations are right on target - they are certainly using multiple user names. They haven't just "disappeared."

I agree Lab. I think, as you say, it will be a series of smaller events at public places to cause the most harm. I cant see it feesible for them to plant Nukes in the city unnoticed. Not impossible, but not practical.

To my fellow New Yorkers:
Please stay very alert of your surroundings.
Keep supplies close.
Keep open a way of communication with loved ones.
(If possible)

From the FR NYC Terror Thread:***

A friend who works at one of the alphabet agencies near DC said this to me on Friday afternoon about transportation along the eastern seaboard: "Do not fly, do not take a train, and (expletive deleted), do not go to New York any time soon." Unfortunately, that's all he would say.

Are the Ukrainians missing warheads or entire missiles? Do we know what type? Do we have part numbers? Inquiring minds want to know.

The warheads could be PM'd rather quickly with easy access to tritium.

It's been reported in the London press. A message was sent to a Arab paper in London.

I believe DHS will now issue "Localized Alerts", rather than a general raise in the national threat level.
(When the intelligence is credible)

This makes more sense to me.

You noticed too... Some of the screen names have been dormant for months, and all of a sudden they become active on the TM just as some of the the other, well known names disappear. And then there are the screen names created in the last few days, but even though they are newbies, they know the lingo and write with a familiar style and as if they have been posting here for months.

The flip side to that post is one possible solution to the terrorist problem that is absolutely scary. I almost hate to post it, but I will for purely academic purposes, and add the disclaimer that I dont advocate this in any way, shape or form.

A terrorist organization is a trans-national organization, meaning they have no borders, no allegiances except to their maker, and no hinderances of public opinion, politics, etc. They are purely ideological / military in nature and they operate right at the grey line between crime and organized warfare.

In order to fight them effectively, you need to destroy their ability to project power. This means destroying their armies, leaders, communications, and logistics.

When they are operating in a friendly country, you cannot bomb a known terrorist hiding place, etc because you have infringed on your friendly neighbors national sovereignity, so it becomes a law enforcement action and it festers. If they dont act quick enough because they have different laws, then the terrorists escape and become a problem somewhere else. Its a dilemna we see all the time.

This is where it gets nasty.

To end terrorist activities, equally effective transnational organizations with the specific goal of eliminating terrorists and preventing terrorist attacks are probably the most effective means to do it. It smacks of vigilantism, thats why I dont condone it. They could also very easily deteriorate into lawlessness and human rights violations and then you have the same problem in reverse, but they wouldnt have the constraints of governance in their operations and they could strike immediately anywhere in the world.

Its almost like the Sword of Damocles haging over your head, or a perpetual paradox that never solves correctly.

An aquaintance of mine who is with the NY/NJ Port Authority Police, hints that they are on the highest level of alert they can be on in the absence of an actual incident in progress.

when did it start? because even as of Friday, I did not see the aggressive checkpoints at the bridge and tunnel crossings - stopping and searching trucks, etc. Maybe it will be different tomorrow.

Nothing would surprise me from these guys.

They have had more than enough time to smuggle WMD into our country piece by piece.
