Deputy AG Comey Hints at Big House for Berger, US Media Mum

Deputy Attorney General James Comey raised the specter of a jail sentence yesterday for Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, if he's found guilty of removing top secret documents from the National Archives that were supposed to go to the 9/11 Commission.

Though Comey's comments were widely quoted, the U.S. press edited out his reference to a possible stint in the big house for Berger. A Lexis Nexis search found that only Agence France Press quoted the Deputy AG in full, including this key observation on the Berger security breach:

"It's our lifeblood to keep secrets," Comey told reporters in Washington. "All felonies in the federal system bring with them the promise of jail time, that's all I can say about that."

Comey left little doubt that Berger's so-called "sloppiness" was more likely a serious crime.

"It is against the law for anyone to intentionally mishandle classified information, either by taking it to give to somebody else, or by mishandling in a way that is outside the regulations of government information.".

In case anybody missed the point, the U.S.'s number two lawman added: "The federal system is a very tough system. . . We take issues of classified information very, very seriously."

Now wonder venues like CBS News, which reported Tuesday night the Berger would almost certainly not be charged with criminal wrongdoing, decided not to cover Comey's full comments.

Good!

They have erased that from his home page.

It is now probably in thousands of computers around the country and will be in more before the week is over.

Things have reached a sorry state when a french news service will report the whole story and the US media will not.

It is amazing what the freepers catch, and the rest of the so called news world misses or spikes on purpose.

This treason of the Berglar is a prime example.

Many of us would classify the AFP as a third rate news service.

No sign of censorship here by the main media.

As you inferred, the media misses things on purpose. I don't think devolve or MiaT ever found the audio of Hillary making her 'something is going to happen' speech.

What can we do about this media? They are getting worse each day, not printing or talking about the crimes of the left, just bashing the administration, and going straight from the credits to the democrat talking points!!! I am so frustrated. Had Condi Rice done this it would be 24/7 coverage, but Berger is getting a pass, and the main story is who leaked this! It is maddening, and we have to do something!! But what?

I remember there were counless open file drawers with combo locks and files marked "TOP SECRET", many of them were left open with files hanging out like it was an accountants office on April 14th. I know times have changed but I got a big laugh out of seeing all the TOP SECRET files labeled "Project XYZ" and such just laying around the office.

I used to visit my husband when he was standing duty; for awhile aboard a sub, then in offices. He'd never tell me anything! If he had to go to the bathroom someone would babysit me, or if no one were around I had to accompany him inside the bathroom.

There was one room in the building with a black door, peephole, and surveillance cameras outside. I was DYING to know what they did in there! LOL!

Yeh, and all those documents had cover sheets, indicating the level of classification. I'll wager that you only saw unclassified titles and did not see the actual classified material.

About that same time I was working on a "Black" project (it later went "checkerboard", and was the Navy A-12 development program). We didn't let "uncleared" into the area without a minder. When they were there we had rotating strobes on the ceiling that would be turned on. When they came in, their keeper would yell "UNCLEARED" and the person had to carry around a "beeper" which also had it's own flashing light. Earlier and at another facility the keeper had a bell that had to be rung every minute or so. We did not let any relatives or others with no need to be there into the area. The uncleared were mostly people come to service the computers, the wiring or the HVAC. Even the cleaning lady had a clearance in the first case. In the second case, which allowed open storage of documents, since it was inside a "vault", we had heavy black plastic sheeting which we threw over everything the night the cleaning crew was to be in. They still had minders of course.

From what I've read the stuff the Bergerler compromised was "Code Word" material, which is more heavily protected than general Secret or Top Secret material.
