Roll Call

Posted on 07/21/2004 7:15:33 AM PDT by Mr. D

Cynthia McKinney (D) is headed back to Congress after the controversial five-term ex-lawmaker won a plurality in Georgia's 4th district primary Tuesday, avoiding what had been widely considered an all but inevitable runoff.

Personally--I think CNN should have her on every evening.
Her sage commentary on issues will do that network a lot of good.

In fact Al Franken should add her to his radio lineup for the few remaining days of its existance.

I DEMAND A RECOUNT.

We should recount all the chads, voting machines, white voter disenfranchisement, prisoners who voted, dead people who voted, etc.

Perhaps someone should file on behalf of the other two candidates for a voter recount?

Let me tell you - this is why we have to get out the vote.

1) Cynthia McKinney back to Congress

2) Johnny Isakson over Herman Cain without a runoff.

You can't have it both ways. A voter in the GA 4th (me) had a choice to pick up a Dem ballot and vote against JihadCyndi or pick up a Pubbie ballot and vote for Herman.

Based on the assumption that the Dem ballots had cooties on them, I chose the latter option. :)

Here are a few numbers of note.

1)150,000 more republican ballots were cast in GOP 2004 Primary than Chambliss primary in 2002

2)Isakson got 30,000 more votes than Chambliss did in the 2002 primary

3)12,000 more people voted in the Dekalb GOP Primary than did in 2002.That is why Cynthia was elected.(none of these votes effected the Senate race.

I thought that the federal elections weren't until November .

^^
Apparently this is a primary choosing the R and D candidates for the November elections.

You didn't oversleep. The district McKinney will represent is so heavily Dim that the Repub candidate won't have a snowball's chance in he** to beat her.

For all practical purposes, McKinney won election to Congress yesterday.

The November election will be a mere formality in that race.

I could just imagine what the Coz would have to say.

My problem is with how they cobbled together the district back during the '90 U.S. Census.

If they hadn't created a racially partial district in the first place, she never would have been elected to the House of Representatives.

Once she was an incumbent-despite her obvious lack of bearings or any sort of common sense whatsoever-it became an almost insurmountable challenge to dislodge her from her seat.

That is why I'm so confounded by Majette's decision to run for the open, Zell Miller seat in the U.S. Senate.

It just doesn't make any sense, at least to me.

I never heard of an election in August. I thought the congressional elections were in November.

As optimistic as I am-for someone who's a complete pessimist-I don't think I can muster much enthusiasm for the general election.

No Cain or Collins, McKinney is probably going to get elected once again...ugh.

I wish I could be more enthusiastic, but yesterday's results really bummed me out.

IMO...Majette was paid to take a dive. Cindy has access to Saudi money, and I'm sure the Saudis wouldn't mind shelling out 10 or 20 big ones to buy Cindi's seat back.

Either that, or the party informed Majette she'd get no help from them if she decided to rerun for her congressional seat. That makes more sense to me than any other possible scenario. There's no way I'd believe Majette thinks she has an honest shot at the senate seat.

"Part of this is because of low voter turnout. If we don't energize our base then don't be surprised to see President Elect Kerry on November 3."

I agree. Yesterday, too many conservatives were shirking. An extra "yopp!" would have sent both Isakson and McKinney into run-offs they might not win.

That is true. That Savannah-to-DeKalb district was a monstrosity, and it was correctly struck down as violating the equal-protection clause because it used race as the primary motivation for its erose boundaries. Had McKinney had to run in the 1996 district in an open-seat race, she might not have made it past the primary.

me, too.

I'll tell you one thing - pestering my State officials over this "vote straight party" crap in the primary is gonna be my hobby until they change it so's you can pick the best man for the job regardless of party.

Silver lining - She serves as a useful idiot

This coalition of the wild-eyed Democrats only serves as a group of useful idiots if we shine the spot light on them. I think that it would be beneficial if News Max or someone made another deck of cards or created an inter-net montage with all the crazy Democrats captioned with their wildest statement.

Depends on where the high voter turnout was. In my part of GA, turnout was less than 30%. Couldn't have benefitted Cain.

If voter turnout is that abyssmal in November, it could be scary.

Can you name a state that allows you to vote in both primaries? It is just not logical. Ga. is among the best because you can pick the primary each time and don't have to register to a party.
