Why is no one asking Northwest Airlines, if it their policy to allow people out of their seats after the seat belt light is on and flight attendants are preparing the airplane for landing? Especially when they are all Middle Eastern men. Regardless of who these 14 actually were, but why were they aloud to terrify innocent passengers? Seemed pretty obvious the flight attendants knew passengers were bothered by the incident. Middle Eastern men or old white guys in a Polka band, rules are rules. NWA owes an explanation of their in-flight security policy.
"This brings us to the heart of the matter -- political correctness. Political correctness has become a major road block for airline safety."
PC is more than a block for airline safety, it's one of the single biggest reasons this country is in the mess it is in. I shouldn't have to like or tolerate any leftist liberals degenerate lifestyles or socialist/communist politics and I damn sure should not have to pretend like it's "ok" so I don't get arrested for a supposed "hate crime" all for saying I think they are idiots.
"If the mainstream media has taken an interest in this story, they're figuring out a pro-Kerry spin for it, perhaps to criticize this administration's security efforts. If they can't trash GWB or someone connected to the administration, they won't pursue it."
They won't put Kerry anywhere near an airline story lest someone dig into the Logan airport warning he blew off before 9/11.
Agree, Navy. The policy is apparently not too confront potential terrorists. I think a preemptive strike was in order. Given the fact that there were FAM on board I would've thought something would have been said to them.
"Oh, brother, this ex-FBI guy calls the Jacobsens "two people who didn't understand security," or words to that effect."
No kidding..wonder if he is ex FBI becuase he didn't understand security leading up to 9/11? We are being led by a goverment of complete idiots (Congress, FBI, Homeland Security, and the the TSA bufoons). We are not safe with these folks running security and the country. It's always better to error on the side of caution. These a$$clowns need a major disaster to happen before they get up off thier lazy overpaid asses to do any real proactive work.
I thought they were very credible. They both struck me as libs -- at least until this experience -- with her being a journalist and he being a flaming metrosexual, and thus, they should be the ones screeming about overreacting and misunderstandings and learning to get along. I too would like to think this was just a misunderstanding and overreaction on their part, but not one other person on the flight has contradicted their observations, although I'm not aware of any first hand confirmations either. Too many things need to be explained, like why the flight crew allowed the behavior, particularly during the final approach, why the pilots and flight crew didn't direct passengers back to their seats during the flights, why the pilots didn't land at the first available airport, why no other person on that flight has confirmed or negated what this couple has said, and why hasn't anyone confirmed or negated the alibi of the so-called Syrian band.
Here is the link for the story Michelle Malkin has linked at MichelleMalkin.com. Obviously I know nothing about the credibility of this writer, but it's another interesting tale. Makes me wonder how many more stories there are out there like this...

I was encouraged Joe said he would stay on this story. I hope he really does. SOMEONE in the "mainstream media" needs to fill in the details instead of glossing over them. At the end Annie said she asked the FBI what kind of instruments the band guys had and the FBI hadn't investigated that far, apparently.
Another big hmmmmm.
My theory is that the flight attendants knew that on 9/11 flight attendants were killed before the planes were crashed, and they were afraid that if they went up and said something to the guys about sitting back down on approach, they might have their throat slit or something... On the other hand if the guys were standing up and going to do something bad, what did the flight attendants have to lose?
This was the only thing that Scarborough didn't cover - the ridiculous, disaster-waiting-to-happen, policy of NOT profiling more than 2 Arabs or there is a fine. That is absolute madness. Mineta needs to resign. He's incapable of making rational decisions. This policy endangers Americans.
But it's not that ONLY Arabs should be scrutinized either. Al Queda has been trying to recruit non-Arabs/European looking people to carry out their dirty work. Security should be able to screen anyone who seems suspicious- Arab or not. NOTHING should prevent them from following up on hunches or on something that just doesn't look right. (Ask James Woods abour hunches-he was on the flight that 4 of the 9/11 terrorists did a dry run on).
The air marshalls should wear street clothes too, so they blend with the crowd. Common sense, Is it too much to ask for a little common sense Airline security? Sheeeesh....
Good theory. I have also thought that they trying to provoke a reaction. What if the pilot directed all passengers to remain in their seats, and the ME guys refused. One guy is stationed near the cockpit door, just in case one of the officers violates procedure and opens door to investigate. Lots of possibilities.
Well actually, I think the FBI actions make sense under a certain scenario. I don't want to say more than that.
Of course this is also the airline that recently landed at the wrong airport (a military airport) resulting in the passengers sitting on the plane with shades drawn for 3 hours told not to look out the window... (June 21st) http://edition.cnn.com/2004/US/Central/06/20/wrong.airport.ap/ (second article an account by a passenger) http://www.wral.com/news/3457170/detail.html
All sorts of 'reasons' have been given about how it can happen...but this is another story that was relatively slow in coming out in the press (although it had been on FR from the beginning). Curious.
Not sure I'm eager to jump on a flight with NWA anytime super soon.
Maybe he'll be forced out after the next terrorist action involving airlines. (Of course we hope there won't be another tragedy...but the way things are going....)
Are those the kind words of mutual amiable botherly discussion you long for?

For the rest of us, we understand the lessons of close calls. When a tree branch falls to the left of us, and then to the right, and then directly ahead of us, we realize -- most sanely and serenely, you understand -- that these woods are dangerous, immediately dangerous. That the next moment could well bring a branch to fall upon ourt own person. That we'd best act -- then, right then -- to avoid such evident coming calamity.
However, a meanderer through the woods like yourself -- I'd expect with new branch that falls next to you, why that woucl only increase your sense of invulnerability.
Amazing. Just like a kid with a hot foot in the car for his first drive. You know so much more.
Assuming that she comes from a Wall St. background because of the source of the original article, I'm not surprised that it would be her that picked up on the pattern quickly, that is a staple of the business.
Steve Doocey on Fox&Friends just said "Sandy Burglar" LOL! Brian and E.D. both asked if he said it, and he said he slipped. :)
