Acid Bombs are an old story in this area. A couple of years ago some kids found the plans for one on the internet and tried cooking one up for their school. There have also been some random nut job putting them in mailboxes also in Broward County (I'm in Miami-Dade).

OTOH, there is a significant ME presence in the area. This COULD be some testing of designs happening. Making the thing go off is easy. Making it go off exactly when you want it to, especially if you're not around, is something else.

explosion in the Times Square NYC subway station - a bag was left on a staircase, exploded, injuring one police officer. initial report is that it was a bag of fireworks. chemical tests being performed, officers with machine guns in Times Square.
