THANKS TO SLIM FAST
07/14/04 | Jim Boldebook

Posted on 07/15/2004 5:46:14 AM PDT by JimB in Venice

Slim Fast should be congratulated for their quick response to thousands of requests to remove Whoopi Goldberg as their spokeperson. They didn't drag their feet, they didn't make excuses, they did the right thing by showing they did not want to tie their name to the left-wing, disrespectful, insulting comments of washed up Whoopi. Glad her TV show was cancelled. Hope all of her endeavours fall flat. She deserves nothing more. She goes far beyond the right of dissent and freedom of expression with her nasty tirades.

Can someone post the email address or a phone number so I can thank them?

Even more so because the Slimfast CEO is a Democrat and a large contributor.

Someone suggested this morning that Slim-Fast was just looking for a reason to fire Whoopi. Their real problem with her is that she's a fat slob who has no business serving as a spokesperson for a weight-loss product.

You don't see Monica Lewinsky doing Jenny Craig ads anymore . . . if you've seen her recently you'll understand why.

Makes you wonder why potty mouth was hired in the first place, however...

"She goes far beyond the right of dissent and freedom of expression with her nasty tirades."

I disagree. She has every right to engage in nasty tirades. What she does not have, is the right to have the public like it. One who makes one's living by being popular with the pubilc [who Ms. Goldberg's public is, is anybody's guess] runs the risk of losing that popularity for a number of reasons, one of which is being publicly obnoxious. Tough luck, Whoopie.

I posted this on another thread, but what the heck...

Here's Slimfast's response to my complaint which I received this morning:

"Dear XXXXXXXXXXX ,

Thank you for contacting us recently about our use of Whoopi Goldberg, specifically regarding
her remarks made at the recent fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall. The manner in which Ms.
Goldberg chose to express her personal beliefs at this event do not reflect the views and values
of Slim·Fast Foods Company.

Slim·Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing
weight, which we applaud.

We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and
sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended you. Advertisements featuring Ms. Goldberg
will no longer be on air.

We appreciate you sharing your views with us and we hope you will continue to use Slim·Fast
as your partner in healthy weight management.

Sincerely,

Kathi Eckler
Consumer Services Manager "

Sorry, even though they let Goldberg go, I'm not buying any more of their products. Unilever's president has donated $1.2 million in an attempt to defeat President Bush in November. Goldberg's scandalous behavior simply brought that fact to light. I'm not giving him a cent of my money to assist in that effort.

The President of Slim Fast is a big contributor to the Democratic Party that is probably why he hired Whoopi had the Vice-President of the company fire her. The "heart and soul" of America has spoken. Bye, bye Whoopi.

I see that, but if I were a stockholder I wouldn't be too thrilled with the president of my company using his position to make political statements and/or help his like-thinking cronies.

Its good that Goldberg is being held to account for her actions. But that's not enough. I learned something else through all this. I now know others to add to my eternal boycott list. Because of their participation in the RAT fest, or their past support of JEffinK and the donkeys, I will no longer buy any SlimFast, Heinz Ketchup, Newmans Own, or even John "Cougar"'s stuff.

And I used to like Newman and "Cougar".

Agreed. They buckled because their parent company's stock did.

Did Slim Fast's boss apologize for Whoopi's crass dirty comments about Pres Bush?

If he did not....I am buying Kraft brand Mayonaise from now on rather than Hellman's aka Best Foods...

I don't buy a Slimfast today.

Whoopi-G has been expressing a visceral hatred of conservative and republicans for a long long time now.

Slimfast well knew that when they signed her up as spokesperson, and now Whoopi-G is laughing all the way to the bank with big $$$$$ courtesy the gullible consumer.
I won't be caught dead buying their crap.

I have been searching this morning for any news proclaiming Whoopie's dismissal, but cannot find one. Is Slimfast just quietly firing her without any public appologies or am I missing something here?

I'm curious, too. I saw her on a SlimFast ad last night.
