It started with one first class passenger asking a soldier what seat he was sitting in, as he passed by in the airplane's isle. The soldier mentioned a seat in the back, but the passenger in 1st class told him no, you're taking MY seat.

Flying in my Marine Corps uniform to San Francisco for my trip to Southeast Asia in 1972, the 'stews' placed me in first class and
filled me with booze the whole way - gratis. They knew where I was going and why, and they wanted to
express their support for me and all the GI's.
That was quite different than treatment that I got in San Francisco airport 2 years later when I came back - insults hurled by hippie scum!

Can you explain the difference between enlisted and not enlisted? Just curious.

"Second, if you're nice, many assume you're just trying to hit on them."
Most FAs are so matronly these days that I would rather not. I rarely see a fresh-faced young FA. Maybe I'm on the wrong flights.

"After reading this, is there any doubt about this election's outcome? We're that 'silent majority' that pollsters never ask, that media never caters to and politicians seldom 'reach out' to (unless it's to snatch money away from us). They hope we'll be so disgusted with the state of political electioneering, that we'll simply stay home, while they bus in their newly registered voters to take our place, with a far different outcome. This article should remind you of the many good and decent Americans still out there. If you stay home, their deeds and the sacrifices of our brave soldiers will have been in vain."After re-reading this thread because this whole event is bringing chills to me--the REALLY good kind ;-) your post was just so right on target, I had to post it again! So true. So true.

That was a sad time for America in many ways. Not quite sure why we got into that one, other than to equate it to the invasion of Kuwait. The Liberal press tossed gas on the fire and it scorched a lot of good soldiers. It was a war fought by some very nasty enemies and it had some bad effects on our guys and some crossed the line. After the hell they went through, I certainly couldn't judge them.
BTW, THANK YOU for serving our country in harms way!

I would hazard the prediction that with this story going out, the same courtesy and gratitude will be shown our soldiers a LOT more often.
This is a very good thing.

I'm SO sorry Chieftain. People knew not what they did.
I showed this story to my 101st Army Ranger brother. I told him about the other post (above) --about it being "better than the spiting on and being called baby-killer." I told him how sorry I was about his having to go through that. I told him that now that I'm old enough to change things, I will. (He's 9 yrs older than me).
We were at an anti-war demonstration in San Diego -- as PRO Iraqi Liberation supporters a year or so ago. We were just there to support President Bush, because we knew there'd be some bashing. This Vietnam Vet came up to me and started yelling at me saying where was I during the Vietnam war...I said I was at home, but my brother was there as an 101st Army Ranger, and I'm so sorry Sir that we didn't thank you enough. I'm thanking you now...God Bless you Sir, I told him....and his face immediately turned from a one filled with rage, to a face with eyes now filling up with tears.
I'm so sorry Chieftain, but we'll right that wrong as best we can, together! Please know that we care and thank you very, very much. God Bless YOU.

Thank you so much!! I feel the same way. He had a wonderful vacation, got engaged and is looking forward to a career in the military. He is a medic and is up for awards for valor. I sent him this post to let him know how much support there is back home. You freepers are the best!

I spent a little money on some troops bound for Iraq on a flight recently - The FA, after a little convincing, decided that they all looked 21.
God, what a bartab.
LOL.

To: Abigail Adams
Hi, Abigail,
Enlisted are the ranks of Private (Army & Marines), Seaman or Airmen up through Sergeant Major, or Master Chief Petty Officer (Navy & USCG), (not sure about Air Force). The enlisted ranks comprise the bulk of all the services.
The officers are the Lieutenants through General or Admiral. The officers are usually college educated and aspire to command and authority type positions.
(Just joking here: but the enlisted guys get things done; the officers like to think about how to get things done. And yeah I can say that, I went from Private to Major in the Marines.)
