A Dime's Worth Of Difference? (Liberal Republicans Say "NON!" To Tax Cuts)
OpinionJournal.com ^ | 7/11/04 | Pete Du Pont

An important and serious argument is going on in Washington about whether taxes on Americans' incomes should stay where they are or dramatically rise, and whether government spending should continue its accelerating growth. We know what Democrats think. They despise tax cuts and believe government spending should be higher. Washington Republicans, on the other hand, are unsure of themselves. They used to be for lower taxes and smaller government; now they seem to want bigger spending even if it means higher taxes, abandoning Reagan conservatism for '60s liberalism. In other words, this is a battle for the heart of the Republican Party; the outcome matters, and it seems to be in doubt. With the help of three liberal Republicans (Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island), and one who should know better (John McCain of Arizona), the Senate, with 51 votes, adopted a rule that if passed in the House will end all the Bush tax cuts and ensure that no new ones are enacted.

I'm not backpeddling at all and as usual, you don't know what your talking about.

Tamsey is a self proclaimed PRAGMATIST. Ask her. That's what she told me last year. Reagan was above all, a political conservative and a member of the GOP. He was also a principled conservative and a pragmatic politician. They go hand in hand. Reagan was not a PRAGMATIST, first and foremost. Silly girl.

My problem with third parties is that they all appear blind to the importance of getting seats in state legislatures and congress - preferring to spend all of their limited resources on running a presidential campaign. That's not the way to build a realistic alternative. At htis stage of their development, neither the Constitution Party or the Libertarians should be running a candidate for president. They should be woring in states like Illinois, where the RINO-controlled Republicans put up a candidate for senate who self-destructed (surprise), and voters are left with a Dhimmicrat abomination who will likely be elected wthout significant opposition.

The RINOs are such utter traitors that they would prefer to foreit a senate seat than allow the conservative who was seond in the primary replace their golden boy who went down in flames.

There's a time for that. The middle of a re-election campaign isn't it.

Oh my,silly boy...please don't talk FOR Reagan. He's dead, you aren't channeling him,his words are published for all to read and know, but YOU are twisting what Tamsey has said in the past.Pity that and rather pathetic in a sophomoric way to boot.

Ronald Reagan WAS a pragmatist in the same way that Tamsey is.You have now said that he was,in two posts to me.Yooooooooo hooooooooo...no matter how you want to slice it,twist it,turn it,try to play word games about it,you haves AGREED with what I said, but Kerry-like,want it two different, diametrically opposed ways.Sorry, that won't fly.;^)

So,me lad, just run along now and let the adults continue the discussion.

Unlike you...you who threw more insults at Tamsey and me,in four posts, than can be counted on two hands?

In the dictionary, your face appears next to the word hypocrite...no explanation nor definition needed!

You use Reagan for your own purposes... as a foundation to launch your petty snipes and divisive rhetoric.

And this thread is the antithesis of his policy that it's better to get 80% of what you want than go off the cliff with flags flying.

But I'll be sure to wave as you plummet down the canyon.

You're off the wall, littlegirl. The adults were having a very intelligent conversation, until all you littlegirls came along and started whining and crying because the grownups wouldn't let get your way. Now run along and have your temper tandrums somewhere else.

What nonsense! ROTFLMSO

You preschoolers were having your usual temper tantrums in the sandbox, happily pretending to be "adults".Then the grownups arrived and now you're squealing and mewling and calling names and lying.Didn't have your nap today and mommy wouldn't allow you to have candy before din-din? Poor widdle you.

Problem is, we aren't getting 80% of what we want...more like 20%

Advocates of massive government are winning the battle...and a bunch of them have "R"'s behind their name on the ballot.

Do you put party above principle?

That'a girl, more drivel.

Grow up and try debating the issues, instead of throwing a fit every time you see a thread or a post you don't agree with.

>>>And this thread is the antithesis of his policy...

Baloney! You haven't even read the thread. All you did was call in the "Posse" of upset littlegirls to throw temper tandrums and disrupt the thread, so you can get your way.

You all act like 12 year olds and for good reason.

The same tired canard.

No, but some of us are intelligent enough to realize that the GOP is the best vehicle available at the moment for implementing conservative principles.
