SPEARFISH -- Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said Thursday that he was very concerned about homeland security issues in the face of what he called the most sobering terror report he had heard recently.
The United States is tightening security in the face of a steady stream of intelligence indicating an attack aimed at disrupting elections, the White House said Thursday.
The Department of Homeland Security is addressing the threat and has efforts underway to ''ramp up security,'' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.
"It is absolutely essential for the U.S. Senate to turn its attention to what we can do to make America safe," Daschle said.
Of particular concern are the nation's borders and ports, Daschle said, and there are security issues unresolved as the homeland security appropriations are "hung up" in the Senate.
Asked if the timing of the terror concerns might be aimed at stealing political thunder from the announcement of John Edwards as the democratic vice presidential candidate, Daschle replied, "The report is so sobering and so serious that I cannot bring myself to believe anyone in this administration would use this for political purposes."
Daschle said the most recent terror briefing was the second this week and contained information that there is a higher threat than there has been at any time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Now you know how serious the threat has to be for Daschle to say this.
Also, this is the briefing that Kerry "just didn't have to time" to listen to. He wants to be president, and can't find time to at least learn about the most serious threats our nation is facing.
MUCH AGREE ON ALL YOUR POINTS.
Shameless. Treasonous. Typical.
This doesn't sound good.
So, Tom, will you be in Boston later this month? Someone needs to brief Kerry, and he's soooooo busy right now.
I think the American people have gotten too complacent and cynical about the terror warnings, because Bush and the intel agencies have been successful so far in foiling the attacks.
How soon people forget.
BTTT
The fact that Kerry isn't taking these intel briefs seriously to the point of not even bothering to take time to listen to them, should alone be enough to fully disqualify him from being president or even Senator.
Not looking good.
Well at least it's not Kennedy who's concerned about these sobering terror breifings.
Yes! Kerry's not too busy for LKL or Whoopie (sp). He's heartless and soulless.
I strongly agree.
Thanks.
"He (Kerry)'s heartless and soulless."
==
Not to mention totally irresponsible and UNFIT to be President.
Just as the SwiftBoat Vets warned us.
In their letter to Kerry:
"Your conduct is such as to raise substantive concerns as to your honesty and your ability to serve, as you currently seek, as Commander-in-Chief of the military services."

the Dem convention,
the Pub convention,
or something else?
I simply can't believe that terrorists would want Bush to be reelected...that can't be to their advantage, regardless of what some libs have said.
The Dems are far more likely to ease up on terrorism and yet cave to their demands; so messing with the Dem convention and their chances of success would not seem useful.
Terrorists would probably want to 'punish' the Pubs for, in their minds, Afghanistan, Iraq and continued support for Israel. But I'm not sure if an attack on the Pubs would have the desired effect...it could possibly bring back the post-9/11 unity and nationalism that could sweep the Pubs to a landslide.
I can't think of what other targets might be in their heads that would affect our elections in the direction they want them to go.
It's probably one of those Billionaire things; like the glass looks half full because he didn't take vacations during three weeks.
Right you are, the weasel is foreshadowing some future rat weaseling move.
