I've read several letters in the paper regarding Michael Moore's new movie, "Fahrenheit 9/11."I haven't seen the film, but I did look at Moore's Web site and have read some of his work in other publications. I think I have a pretty good idea about the man's opinion regarding our current president.
Most of the letters were written by locals. Many of them seemed outraged that anyone could draw so many uncomplimentary conclusions about George W. Bush based upon his performance in office thus far. They support George and can't understand how people could be so unkind, so willing to draw the worst possible conclusion about a man who is only human and as such prone to make occasional errors in judgment.
As for Moore's movie, I believe it compiles facts about the Bush family and administration and uses them to draw conclusions that may or may not be true. In fact, the opinions in the movie probably aren't completely true. If you believe otherwise, you might need a little reality check.
That said, I believe Moore's movie is very important, and that everyone, especially neo-conservatives, should see it.
For several years, the Republican media have been fighting dirty, using low blows and sucker punches thrown by pompous fools like Rush Limbaugh, and many neo-cons have been lapping up this dirty talk like a pack of starving coyotes dining on a dead cow.
This dirty play wound its way into every level of our government and found its most dramatic form in the four-year witch hunt, Whitewater. Kenneth Starr, with the blessing of bloodthirsty conservatives everywhere, spent four years and nearly a billion dollars to tell us something that he learned in the first three months of his investigation: Clinton lost money on the land deal and didn't have anything to do with the shady dealers. Some Republicans still believe Clinton lied about it, despite all of Starr's vigorous and often illegal digging.
Here's a response to Whitewater.
Maybe Bush is lying about his relationship with the bin Laden family. Maybe he did allow some of its members to leave the country right after 9/11, when no one else was allowed to, because he has a "special" relationship with that powerful Saudi family. Maybe, because of that relationship, Bush started the war in Iraq to take the focus off of Osama.
Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.
I was in Sam's the other day, looking at a copy of Bill Clinton's new book. As I thumbed through, an older gentleman walked by and said something like, "That book's full of lies anyway." He then chuckled in a very arrogant, annoying way.
I turned to the jerk and told him in the calmest voice I could manage that I was a Democrat and he was speaking about a man I happen to respect. He continued to smile smugly and laughed condescendingly. I cannot tell you how much I despise that man and others like him.
I happen to think Bush gave tax breaks to Americans by borrowing money from our children. I think Bush has allowed many companies to ignore environmental laws and many of our citizens will pay for that greed with their good health. I think Bush passed a law which will steal the money I paid into Social Security because I'm now paying into the Texas Teacher's Retirement System.
I think Bush sent many of our young men to their deaths because he couldn't leave well enough alone. I think he actively worked to fool people into thinking Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11 when he had no evidence to support such a claim. I think Bush chums around with many powerful oilmen who also happen to be Saudi.
I also think if you're angry about Moore's new movie and you're tuning in every day to listen to Rush Limbaugh or others like him, then you're getting fooled because you're willing to swallow the words of people who take the facts and twist them to fit their opinion. Do you see why I like Moore's movie? Not because it's true, but because Moore fights dirty, just like Republicans do.
Why should every Republican see "Fahrenheit 9/11"? Because they need to realize that liberals can pull the gloves off, too.
As for that old fool in Sam's? If anyone else calls Clinton a liar to my face, he had better be ready for a low blow in return.

Don't try to tell me George Bush never has lied to us. The difference is, he'll never admit it.

So, Moore's lies are ok. Clinton's like are ok. But if Bush says something leftists disagree with it is ok to demonize him?

Oh, that is rich! Yep he admitted he lied, after the blue stained dress made it where he couldn't. Did he ask God for forgiveness? Well, that is between him and God, but if you all will remember at the time he supposedly submitted himself to "counsel" of "men of God" about his adultery. One of them was Jesse Jackson who was at that time engaged in adultery as was later found out. Why didn't he go to someone a little more credible for counsel?
If I had all the money that the governement has stolen from me and had invested it, I could just give it to my children myself.

I just got back from a business trip to Austin, and there are a few Kerry stickers on cars down there, but not many.
Travis County will be one of the few counties Kerry will carry.
So the freshest b.s. in Amarillo is NOT at the Livestock Exchange. As long as this guy's not working at Pantex he's pitifully harmless. Probably still upset that Goldwater carried the Panhandle over LBJ.

I just love this line of reasoning (I've seen it in several reviews). It's like the following restaurant review:
"Aside from getting my stomach pumped and spending several days in bed, I would recommend that everyone eat at Miguel's Eats..."
My retort.
I don't really care that he lied to his wife or to the country about having a sexual affair with a person 25 years his junior.
He lied to a Grand Jury while under oath about facts concerning a concurrent criminal investigation.
His actions were criminal, in that he knew the truth and when asked to speak truthfully, he willfilly lied.
Bill Clinton should be in jail.

Hmmmm, couldnt leave well enough alone??? Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time we left a madman well enough alone, didnt he murder millions and millions of Jews??? As well as his "own" people?? But perhaps you are correct. I mean, before we went in and took Sadam out, we should have tried to solve this problem w/ hugs and kisses. I'm sure if Bush invited Sadam over for some coffee or to the ranch, this all could have been resolved w/out the war. My booboo

I exchanged a couple of e-mails with this guy about a previous letter he wrote in the Amarillo paper. One that you posted last fall. (I think it was you, anyway.) Something about President Bush and the Carlyle Group. He recited the usual liberal propaganda and I responded with facts. He then accused me of bullying him and I didn't hear from him anymore.
He seemed nice enough but he's bought the liberal line hook, line and sinker. I doubt the kids, his students, pay much attention to him.
