FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

The Egyptian daily al-Ahram said that a new government "will give its constitutional oath before President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak during this week " and that the current prime minister Atef Obeid will occupy " a new post relating to economic issues at the internal and external levels and this position will be linked directly to President Mubarak."

In today's issue, the paper said that the new prime minister will be selected " from members of the current government or outside it and will be assigned to form the new government which is expected to include several new faces in order to have renewed blood that would accelerate having Egypt transferred to the age of technology and information, so as to improve the government's performance and eliminate routine."

The paper added that it is expected the " new government will have 14 new ministers which is half the number of members of the current government's ministers." Mubarak, however, returned back to Egypt on Wednesday from a medical treatment trip in Germany lasted for two weeks. The Muslim Brothers groups in Egypt extended a cable of congratulations to Mubarak on his coming back.

I've seen lots of examples of overeactions to accidents and incidents here. And I view EOM as an amusing side show at best. But when Bin Laden himself goes on the record saying he views it as his duty to obtain nuclear weapons, I find that disconcerting.

I agree. EOM could be anyone/anything at this stage of the game. Terror doesn't need to be actual physical, but is psychological.

right, i just think there's enough out there that's scary enough without saying things like "AQ said" when it's really "EOM said" or the like.

the world is scary enough that i absolutely DON'T need to open up this thread and see "oh god, they attacked a city" in relation to a tanker accident and have to spend ten minutes sorting out that, in fact, "they" didn't "attack" anything.

How many people could a train haul out of a danger area?

In my mind, I see the evacuation of Big Bear last year, it said that coming off the mountain, the traffic was 9 lanes wide and 27 miles long, bumper to bumper.

It has been about 44 years since I was in Big Bear, Calif.,
but it still isn't a major city, compared to the large cities.

New York and San Diego, attempting to get all the people out
would mean a line of traffic 100's of miles long.

I listened to them evacuate the east coast some 7 or so years ago, when clinton tested FEMA's plan, during a storm.

The people in large numbers showed up in Alabama, according
to my daughter.

Once you were on the freeway, the police would not let you get off, not for food or bathroom stops, just move along.

Art Bell in his old style program, had lines open only for the people who were leaving or involved in the evacuation.

SPECULATION-OPINION: This is not the usual look for this ANSAR web site.

It looks to me (and maybe I'm just being an optimist) that someone may have visited the ANSAR web site and changed the look of their front page to let them know that the answer (ANSAR) is blowing in the wind (or shortly will be).
