FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

You are correct. I particulary think that this is true when a news station claims to have video of the man...and yet the story contains no name...and no picture. They are withholding this information for a reason.

Now we may know that they would pose as a passenger and actually be on the train. Make the call of a threat in either a more populated area or a more rural area depending on their reason for the threat.

But it could also be some yahoo looking for thrills...but considering the timing, I doubt it.

BTW freeperfromnj....shouldn't you be packing instead of Freeping????

Maybe they underestimate our resolve and national pride. They must, because they have NO idea what will befall them if they should try a stunt like this.

Or maybe they just don't care.

Or maybe they WANT an over the top response, to "unify islam" against civilization...

They did say that they would first hit "one" city before hitting the rest of them.

Now, the UK has nukes of its own. Are they going to sit by and absorb a nuclear strike on London, and not retaliate?

You know, in one of their rants- they anticipated our reaction. Recall the rant including the line "rabid Americans"?
They said that, when the time comes- the faithful better stay away from the mosques- because the American people are going to come after them full force.

Speaking of which, isn't tonight the night for mosque attendance? Wonder if they will be there tonight.

If I remember correctly, the "Black wind of Death" referred to some eschatological thing the Isalmics prophecized to happen before the Mahdi took power. Something on the order of a massive earthquake or similar event that re-shapes world politics.

I've always thought Bin Laden used the term to indicate some type of catastrophic strike of a large size that would have similar effect, because most Islamic adherents would recognize what he is talking about.

I just read some of the posts on the thread mentioned in your post Donna. It frightens me how much people misunderstand Bin Laden and al qaeda. Having read a number of books on the subject, as many others here have I know that:

1) The terrorists are extremely patient. They will wait for the perfect moment to execute their plans for maximum impact.
2) Bin Laden originally planned to hit nuclear power plants with planes on 9/11 but refrained because he thought things could get "out of hand". I think he was also worried about "peak to soon". In this escalation of terror the only thing capable of eclipsing 9/11 is a nuclear/chemical/biological strike.

good lord, are people allowed to view these with a healthy dose of skepticism?
yes, i believe we are in for an event in the future and that does not make me happy. however, constantly referring to things like EOM postings as though they came from the mouth of bin laden himself, as though they are themselves irrefutably 'go orders' or other garbage like that...i mean, there's a middle ground i think it would be advisable to walk.

i.e., if a tanker accident occurs, do not post something like "dear god, they are cutting off access to a city"

They do this every now and then, and said last month that they would be resigning in July. It's probably nothing earthshaking. They don't usually resign on Friday - that's a little unusual. I'll do a little research and email my contacts in Cairo and see what other info I can shake loose.
