FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

It makes no sense for the Muslims to be running around NYC as usual, and to be absent from Center City, Philly. Or to be leaving 2 suburbs of Buffalo.

I know you previously told us about the sudden absence of Burkas in Center City, but this is the first I've heard about Buffalo. What do you know and what is the source. For what its worth, there are about a half-dozen ME types that I regularly see at the gym I belong to in the NYC burbs. I have not seen any of them in the last week or so. I've been assuming that they've been on vacation or changed their workout schedules, but now I wonder. I note that the ME types don't work out together or even appear to know each other. I've just observed them at various times over the last year or so.

Just a thought on a Sunday security would be lax at best.

That depends what you mean by "security." As I have posted many times in the past, unless we search each and every person traveling in and out of Grand Central Station and Penn Station, there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop an attack, whether it be a suitcase nuke, backback dirty bomb, or a briefcase packed with conventional explosives, unless you have advance intelligence of the who, what, when, and where, and stop the attackers before they even step foot in the station. Nearly a million people travel through both Grand Central and Penn Station each work day. That's nearly two million people that would need to be searched or profiled. ME types easily blend in with the dozens of other ethnic groups that use the mass transit system during the week. Although so-called security might be a bit more relaxed on a Sunday (although not much from my observations), ME types would be more, not less visible on a Sunday because the traffic through Grand Central and Penn Stations on a Sunday is measured in the thousands as opposed to millions.

This is true, however if you wanted to maximise psychological impact, a weekend day when more people are at home and with access to a television may be preferable.

Perhaps. But a significant number of people who live in Manhattan head out of town on weekends. Remember, Manhattan's residential population is not that high compared to Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, and even Nassau and Suffolk Counties. But several million people travel into NYC to work every week day, including the movers and shakers of corporate America. Let's just pray that we're all wrong and nothing happens.

A few minutes ago, Fox News was interviewing a guy, I didn't catch his name (OK, I did, but it went in one ear and out the other, due to my jaw being on the floor).

It was a live interview. The guy was presented as having impeccable credentials (FBI consultant, etc.) and connected up the wazzoo.

His message was quite direct: the reason for yesterday's terror alert warning was the fact that the gov't is aware that AlQ has at least 20 suitcase nukes located in the USA, and plans on using them -- soon.

Benton, Illinois-AP -- A train carrying coal heading to Paducah derailed this morning as it crossed over Interstate 57 in southern Illinois, causing the roadway to be closed in both directions.

Canadian National Railway spokesman Ian Thomson says a truck driver suffered a minor injury, but no one on the train was injured.

W-M-I-X A-M in Mount Vernon reports that at least eight train cars spilled onto the roadway.

Thomson says the train derailed at about 9:45 a-m (central time). Neither he nor Illinois State Police could provide details about why the train derailed.

Thanks for posting that here, KylaStarr; I saw the Fox Alert and then totally forgot about it. I am so relieved that there were no deaths and only 1 injury. Fox showed a shot of the location and it appeared as if some of the trains were dangling over the steep enbankment. It looks like there is much damage to the rail.

I posted this before... I will go through and type up a few more significant things from the book later today.

This finding has been affirmed by US, British, Pakistani, Saudi, and Israeli intelligence.”

The Author, Paul Williams, does go into detail about the fact that these suitcase weapons need at least some maintenance (how much is debatable). He claims that bin Laden, through his Pakistani scientist connections, has acquired the man-power and logistical know-how to keep the weapons ready for usage.

Williams even gives the example of a suicide bomber who entered Israel on September 14, 2001 wired to a nuclear suitcase re-assembled to fit on the body of a bomber. He claims that this never reached the media because it was kept from the public by the President [Bush] and Israeli security forces.

“On October 11, 2001, George Tenet, director of CIA, met with President Bush to present news that at least 2 nuclear suitcases have reached AQ operatives in the US. The news was substantiated by Pakistan’s ISI, the CIA, and the FBI. Each suitcase weighs eight kilograms and contains at least 2 kilotons of fissionable plutonium and uranium. One suitcase bears the serial number 9999 and Russian manufacturing date of 1988. The design is simple. The plutonium and uranium are kept in separate compartments that are linked to a triggering mechanism that can be activated by clock or a call from a cell phone.”

Some quotes regarding Pakistani scientists who worked on the nuclear bombs, and aided in proliferation, starting with Dr. Khan (the father of the Islamic bomb):

“Dr. Khan has responded to such criticism by saying: ‘All Western countries, including Israel, are not only the enemies of Pakistan but, in fact, of Islam.’”

Dr. Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood: One of Khan’s top associates, he has a very intricate knowledge of the nuclear program of Pakistan:

“In 2001, he expressed his belief to members of the foundation [Holy Koran Research Foundation] that the US invasion of Afghanistan represented the beginning of ‘the last war between Islam and the infidels.’”

“After months of questioning, Dr. Mahmood at last admitted that he had met bin Laden and other AQ officials, including al-Zawihiri, in Kabul on several occasions, including two to three days in August 2001 and on the fateful morning of September 11. The purpose of the meetings, he confessed, was not to discuss the nutritional benefits of whole wheat bread but the benefits of an atomic blast in an American city.”

The CIA uncovers plans in one of Mahmood’s corperation offices:

“They also discovered illustrations running the length of the room that showed how high altitude balloons could be used to release large quantities of anthrax and bubonic plague bacilli over major metropolitan areas.”

Abu Ghaith (bin Laden’s Press Secretary) in response to ‘war crimes’ committed by the US and Israel in Iraq/Afghanistan/Palestine:

“We have the right to kill four million Americans – two million of them children – and to exile twice as many and wound and cripple hundreds of thousands.”

A quote from Saad al-Fagih:

“Saad al-Fagih, a Saudi dissident and al Qaeda insider, told a Time reporter than bin Laden now speaks with ‘strange confidence’ about the next attack against America. ‘Before 9/11,’ al-Fagih said, ‘bin Laden would talk in general terms about a major attack coming and a major, major attack following. He [bin Laden] would say, ‘The first attack is going to be this size,’ pointing to the tip of his finger, and, ‘The next attack is going to be this size,’ indicating the whole length of his finger.”
