ACCRA (Reuters) - Men in suits are the worst drivers in Ghana, jumping red lights, speeding and committing two-thirds of traffic offences, police in the West African country said on Thursday. "It's the big men in suits, driving posh cars who're the worst traffic offenders, not taxi and trotro (minibus) drivers," Chief Superintendent Victor Tandoh, head of Accra's police motor traffic unit, told Reuters.
Nearly 560 of 854 people convicted for traffic offences in the capital Accra between January and May were private car drivers, the vast majority of them men.
"Either these men in coats and ties don't have the patience, they're ignorant of road-use regulations or they think their status in society allows them to be above the law," Tandoh said.
Well, well, well! I've long said that women are better drivers than men! :D
I started noticing about 10 - 15 years ago that young White female drivers have become the rudest of all. They take stupid risks, tailgate, weave in and out of traffic, and put the rest of us at risk. And it seems like they are always driving tiny tin cans, so I wonder what that says about their intelligence. Since I am an old White female I guess it is PC for me to state this.
I've seen this in other third world countries too. Men in suits tend to think they're above the law in places like that. I don't believe this conclusion would apply in this country, though.
Not just young white females.. any young female, they all drive like that.
They're probably the onliest ones with cars....
Back when I was in college, I was sitting outside the dorms with my girlfriend one day when this young Asian girl (probably a student) bebops along and starts looking for a place to park. It was a very clear, nice late-summer day and I could see the flustered look on her face. Anyhow, it quickly became apparent to her that the only option was to attempt to parallel park in what, to me, looked like a pretty decent 1 1/2 car length space.
So, I sat there idly watching smoking my cig as she begins to pull in, then BAM! she suddenly slams the car parked behind her. This evidently startled her and BAM!! she slams into the car in front of her. Before you can blink, BAM! she slams the low stone wall beside her; BAM!! she slams the car in front again; BAM!! she slams the behind again, then just as I figure she's gonna get out and survey the damage, off she races on down the way.
Once in a while I've wondered if anyone tracked her down, or if she even survived to make it out of college. LOL!
Nope. You're all wrong. Old man, wearing a hat. That, and little old ladies that can't see over the dashboard. Flying Dutchmen, we call 'em.
I, on the other hand, was probably the best driver I know.
The root of the problem is that they aren't ladies.
LOL! I've seen people drive like that - usually elderly folks.
It is rampant. Maybe they think since they are so cute the laws of physics will be suspended for them.
I am the world's best driver. Aggressive at it, too.

Bingo!! In Africa it seems you either the 0.5% that have your own car (a privilage of the rich, powerful and well connected), or you walk. Period.
Buses,bicycles, scooters,etc.? In theory, yes. As window dressing, yes. As reality, forget it.
Then again, I haven't driven in about 4-1/2 years, since I moved downtown, where the parking is impossible and the streets are so crowded and narrow...
In southern California, soccer moms with cell phones stuck in their ears are LETAL. Much more dangerous than teenagers.
