WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

Think you'd be able to actually get something done as a "free agent", but I'd sign back up again.

Not too old, but broken due to some 70 year old lush that hit me on my motorcycle a few years ago.

But now I've got titanium reinforced legs. Can't they make me into a cyborg now??

Go RoboCop on they a$$.

I saw this earlier I had no idea there were so many of us in our 40s that want to help.

When we're twenty or so....we still only have the gleam of an idea what it means to serve our country and make a sacrifice if necessary.

We're older now. We know exactly what it might entail.

That makes us dangerous.

I was national guard for years. If they had a mass casualty situation, they probably still have me on a computer somewhere. The only reason I didn't go to Gulf War I was 1) I was getting over surgery and had placed my resignation in the month before Sadam invaded Kuwait and 2) they didn't have the 40,000 casualties that some were predicting for that war.

At the time I was still "IRR" and could be called back if they had needed me. I'm now retired. If they want a gray haired grannie doc, then I'm still gung ho...

So when I hear "oh the horrors, 800 soldier killed (it's actually 680 killed and 200 in accidents) I shake my head. Every death is a tradgedy for the families, but I merely remember Cheyney making the remark that this will probably be the first war where civilian casulaties outnumber soldier's deaths (i.e. the 3000 killed on 911 are more than the number of soldiers lost since then)...

I'm too old as well, but dammit - I'd bring my own dog leashes!

Do ya think I could get reimbursed for converting my own AR-15 to full-auto?

"I've always been kind of a pacifist. When I was a kid, my father told me, "Never hit anyone in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it." I don't know what kind of soldier I'm gonna make, but I want you guys to know that if we ever get into really heavy combat... I'll be right behind you guys. Every step of the way." --- Russel Ziskey- from the movie "Stripes"

Yes I would.

No way in hell.

I went once, only to find that the F****** liberals had taken everything over while us good guys were doing our duty.

They then proceeded to dishonor our service.

Never again, and I would suggest to all you adventure seekers out there that we must be vigilant at home because that's where we are being attacked.

The INTERNET makes that possible!

As does the mail in vote.

Today, a citizen can defend his country from wherever he/she may be in the political sense.

And so very many do!

I am a 40 year old that feels 30. Just the thought of being able to get payback makes me feel like I am 18. I am X Coast Guard and I'd love to add another Desert Ribbon to my collection. Where do I sign up!

Your suggested course of action is ineffective.

I even refuse to check the organ donor volunteer box on my drivers license because the chances are excellent that some whining liberal would get my organ.

Let the SOB die.
