My wife works for a wealthy - VERY wealthy filthy rich Republican family. And they are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Not phony, not pretentious, NOT like RAT limousine liberals. And he got his money the old fashioned way, he earned it. In fact, he won the Horatio Alger award for his 'rags to riches' life achievements.
As to money shielding them from 'harsh realities' that we deal with, well that's not so. They have to deal with plumbing problems, leaky roofs, dead car batteries and other mundane stuff just like 'real people'.
Now I'll grant you, there are 'country club' republicans I wouldn't p** on, but I think they are all in the Senate anyway. :-)
